The Workplace Shore
Characters We Work With from ‘Jersey Shore’
On the sandy beaches of the workplace, where office drama crashes like waves, and deadlines shine like the summer sun, we can’t help but notice the many resemblances between our coworkers and the interesting characters from the TV show ‘Jersey Shore.’ Pull out your sunscreen, and get ready to Fist Pump as we take a stroll through sand of the quirky dynamics of our own daily grind.
The “Ronnie”
We all know the more highly competitive people we come across in life. The ones who bring that into the workplace we call the Ronnie. He is the one who can turn just about any situation, like the friendly office game from Scavenger Hunts, to Team Building exercises into a full-on, intense competition. Each summer as offices look to get outdoors, and have their own version of a Summer Olympics, the Ronnie is in it to win it. Their determination can sometimes lead to heated office rivalries, but at least they always keep things entertaining with their competitive spirit.
The “Sammi Sweetheart”
In the tanned land of the workplace, there’s always a Sammi Sweetheart – the peacemaker who tries to keep the office harmony intact. Like the calm and composed member of ‘Jersey Shore,'(for the most part), the Sammi looks to mediate conflicts and try to find common ground during disagreements. She brings a calming presence that can soothe even the stormiest of office disputes. But if she gets caught up in the crossfire, do not expect her to sit back and take it, or be the wallflower, only there to observe and not get involved. The Sammi will stand up for herself, and get right in the mix to set things straight.
The “J-Woww”
Meet the fearless colleague who’s not afraid to speak their mind – the JWoww of the office. Like the bold and assertive member of ‘Jersey Shore,’ the JWoww will never hold back her opinion, solicited or not. Whether in a meeting or asked to deal with difficult colleagues, Jenny will exude confidence and solution-based thinking to turn around a tough situation and make things right. The confidence the JWoww exudes is contagious, always willing to stand up for what she believes in. That attitude and drive can spill over to some volatility, but you know it comes from a good place, and why you always want her on your side, backing you up, as you know she will do it with fervor and a direct approach that is sure to get you where you want to be.
The “Pauly D”
The Pauly D is our co-worker who simply gets along with everyone. There is literally no one who does not like The Pauly D. And the reason is simple. He is the most down-to-earth, genuinely nice person, willing to work hard, help you to complete your work when you need him. The Pauly D will add levity and encouragement when business pressures and stretch begin to permeate the workplace. While businesses and leaders look to devise ways to drive positive employee culture, ranging from games to play, trainings to deliver, or ask HR to help the culture improve, which is consistently futile, The Pauly D drives it better than any initiative, just by being himself. Any business looks to hang on to good, productive, positive employees, yet provide the highest compensation to those at senior and executive leadership. As long as you have The Pauly D on the team, you should pay him whatever it takes to keep him happy, and he will ensure your organization crushes it when the employee engagement surveys come out. And as an added bonus, for any company field trip, The Pauly D will always be the first to call out “THE CABS ARE HERE!”
The “Snooki”
Who doesn’t love having a Snooki in the workplace? She is the vivacious and outgoing colleague who can turn any dull office gathering into a raging beach party. Like the party girl of ‘Jersey Shore,’ the Snooki brings the energy and enthusiasm to every team outing. From organizing happy hours to planning office pranks, they’re the life of the party. And although she sometimes shows up on a Monday very stoic with a pair of designer shades on, you give her some space, knowing that when the nausea and headaches pass, she’ll get right back on the horse and plan something super-fun for everyone. And who doesn’t love that!
The “Mike ‘The Situation'” Smooth Talker
In the sun-kissed world of the workplace, we always end up with a Mike “The Situation” – the smooth talker who can charm their way through any office situation. A bit of a ladies man, even if it is self-proclaimed, The Situation has a way with words that leaves everyone mesmerized, and sure, sometimes scratching their heads, or simply put out about it. Whether it’s convincing the boss for a day off or sweet-talking clients, The Situation certainly knows how to work their magic. Before long, you understand that, while he always has the latest gossip, which he loves to spread, you know that when he tells you something that is too good to be true…it usually is. But you love hanging with him, as The Situation, like several at the Shore, has the confidence to mix in with any group, in any setting, and if you’re with him, you too get to enjoy the inclusion wherever he may take you.
Venturing through the sandy shores of the workplace, we our coworkers as a blend of party starters, smooth talkers, competitive spirit, much like ‘Jersey Shore’ characters. While they move from team to team, they bring beachy, often loud and boisterous, vibes to the office drama that crashes like waves, making our daily grind nothing short of a summery sitcom. Embrace the fun, sometimes outrageous, Office-Shore experience that takes the mundane out of the workplace, and turns it into a summery, highly-tanned, adventure ride.
