The Office Guy – Characters We Work With from Family Guy

Has it ever occurred to you, while sipping on your morning coffee, how art imitates life? Or more specifically, how the animated world of a TV sitcom can mirror the people and situations we encounter regularly in the workplace. All too often the projects, timelines, deadlines, and workload can feel like they were created by Peter Griffin himself, as only a dolt could ever conceive of such a plan. And the rest of the Griffins, their neighbors and friends have all had a place in a stop or two along our career journey. Lets take a look at just how closely the crew from Quahog, Rhode Island line up against the Characters We Work With every day.

The Peter Griffin

Every work place has a comedian, and here we call him The Peter Griffin. He is the one with great comedic timing and utterly random humor. Always lovable, the Peter is is never without at least one joke in the chamber, ready to fire at a moment’s notice. Having a co-worker like The Peter who never takes his work too seriously, makes him a go-to colleague to blow off steam, or help you to calm down when work is getting the best of you.

The carefree nature of the Peter Griffen brings a light-hearted spirit to the entire workplace, and why he is consistently regarded as one of everyone’s favorite people. And sure, the Peter may get into a chicken fight every few years causing destruction all over the building, but hey – that’s what Business Insurance is for.

The Lois Griffin

We love the ‘Office Mom’, the one who nurtures, and operates responsibly and diligently at all times. She is our Office Lois, thoughtful and generous as others get overly focused on themselves and what is going on in their own world. Not The Lois. She will give you her time, her effort, and work to understand what you need to do her best to provide it to you.

When she is not organizing company events or an office potluck dinners, The Lois is taking care of the important things that keep the team moving and the business running. She understands goals and deadlines and is sure to hit both consistently. The Lois will also do you the courtesy of giving you the reminders you need to meet your obligations. She’s the ultimate team player, feeling better about your success than her own.

The Stewie Griffin

When you have that colleague it seems is ahead of their time, thinking and operating on a whole other level, we call him The Stewie. He is the office genius with an I.Q. as high as his big sister when receiving a rare compliment.

Like the brilliant character, the Stewie has a knack for solving complex problems and coming up with innovative ideas. The precocious wit sees them frequently outsmart everyone in the office. The Stewie aims super-high, and you suspect they are scheming to do more than just support their team or business, but rather plotting to take over the world if they can get there. But if the Stewie can stay grounded, you will have some incredible brain power on the team that can take everyone to the highest of heights.

The Quagmire

Have you worked along side the ‘Office Charmer’, our serial-dating colleague who seems to have someone new on their arm just about every couple of weeks. Welcome in The Quagmire. Not relegated to his role as ‘Lance Romance’, The Quagmire brings it all, using his charm to smooth talk his next dating prospect as much as to give people a hearty laugh at his jokes and overall insane behavior. The comedy style of The Quagmire is one part Rodney Dangerfield and another part ‘The Three Stooges’. He can dish out Pick-Up Lines and One-Liners that bring levity and excitement to the workplace.

Like the fictional character, The Quagmire has a unique way with words and can easily win people over. Their charming personality makes them the life of office parties. You are always on guard for that one slip-up he is sure to make, crossing the appropriate line, and face the wrath of HR. You just hope it is on that one day each year they have a sense of humor.

The Brian Griffin

The office intellectual is the one with the refined taste and philosophical insights, and the one we call The Brian Griffin. The Brian will love telling you about anything and everything should you give them the opening. Like the erudite character, they’re well red and always eager to engage in thought-provoking conversations with coworkers. Their vast knowledge makes them the go-to person for advice and guidance, provided you can tolerate the air of superiority that will often accompany their input.

It can take some emotional maneuvering to befriend, and sometimes simply to tolerate, the Brian. So, just for kicks you have to throw into your conversations a question about how far along he is with that great novel he’s been writing for years. That will usually humble him on the spot!

In the animated workplace, it’s evident that our coworkers are a blend of jesters, moms, and intellectuals, much like the characters from ‘Family Guy.’ From the office gags and comedic dynamics to the evil geniuses, our daily grind can regularly be ‘Must See TV’. The next time you find yourself in an office giggle or a wacky moment, remember to embrace the humor, and see if gives you what it gives our lovable Crew from Co-Hog, a stress-free and enjoyable camaraderie that can make it among the more enjoyable and memorable work experiences we can have.
