Description/Duties
Classification Responsibilities: The Youth Museum Education Curator is responsible for leading the Education Department and programming of the i.d.e.a. Museum. Duties include developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and events that align with the museum’s mission of supporting children and families through arts based learning; coaching and managing a team of educators and volunteers; developing and maintaining curriculum based programs, including school/field trips, to meet the requirements of Arizona state educational standards; work with community organizations and leaders to create effective partnerships and programming in the community to broaden the impact of the museum’s mission; developing and leading the educational philosophy for the museum; and collect feedback to make data-driven recommendations for program and field trip improvements. The employee also oversees the Gallery Educators training, interns, and helps coordinate volunteer programs and visitors’ services; develops and manages the programs in ArtVille, the museum’s early learning center; works with the Marketing team to publicize programs; supervises the Education Department, promotes outreach to Mesa communities; oversees financial revenues expenditures and in-kind support for museum educational programs; serves as a member of the museum’s senior management team; and performs related duties as required.

Distinguishing Features: The Youth Museum Education Curator serves as a senior leader of the i.d.e.a. Museum and supervises full-time and part-time staff of the Education Department. The i.d.e.a. Museum Administrator supervises the Youth Museum Education Curator, and reviews the curator’s work through assessment of program goals in relation to performance outputs and outcomes, observation of performance in meetings and other working contexts, through oral and written reports, and according to overall results achieved. This class is FLSA exempt-professional.

Minimum Qualifications Required. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in the Arts or Education. Considerable (3 – 5 years) experience in education or in other informal learning environments.

Preferred/Desirable Qualification. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Art or Art Education is strongly preferred, as is experience leading education programming in a museum.
