Position Summary
This position is responsible for officiating sports events and/or monitoring team practices at various indoor and outdoor facilities, and may also assist with skills clinic, special events, facility maintenance, and other program activities.

This position exercises no supervision over others. This position works under the immediate supervision of the Recreation Program Manager (Youth and Adult Sports), with assistance from Program Assistants and Management Assistants.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Initiates positive, friendly interactions with program participants, coaches, and spectators.
  2. Verifies that facilities are safe and ready for use.
  3. Assists with field/facility preparation and routine facility maintenance as needed.
  4. Officiates games and activities, and ensures the safety of participants by knowing, applying, and enforcing program rules, regulations, and procedures. Maintains controlled environment so that participants can learn the sport being played.
  5. Assists with leaving facilities in a secure and clean condition. Notifies proper personnel if there is a security or safety issue.
  6. Performs work in accordance with federal, state, and City employment and safety laws, rules and standards.

Qualifications
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Employees may do both jobs depending on age- please see requirements below.

*Referees: Must be 14 years of age or more.
*Gym Monitors: Must be 16 years of age or more.

Supplemental Information

– Referees are piece rate employees at $25 per game.
– Gym Monitors will be paid $14.28 per hour.
