HOURS AND PAY
The Youth Basketball program will run for a total of 10 weeks between December and February, and requires weeknight availability and also on Saturday afternoons between 1:00 – 4:00pm. Additional hours may be available based on need. Pay will start at $15.00+ depending on qualifications and includes a free fitness membership.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Youth Basketball Program Instructor is responsible for offering amazing programs and services while offering quality guest service. The Program Instructor must be friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable of the rules, regulations, and operations of Basketball. Instructors must be enthusiastic about the activity and seek to expose students to the fundamentals of the activity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Deliver a developmentally appropriate basketball program for registrants ages Preschool – Kindergarten.
- Evaluate the success of the program and the development of each registrant’s abilities and skills.
- Instructors will demonstrate a commitment to working as a team and be supportive of the efforts of their fellow instructors.
- Be an appropriate role model for the students. Encourage the highest levels of sportsmanship and behavior. Generate enthusiasm and commitment to learning.
- Follow the course curriculum as designed. It is expected that Instructors will make full and constructive use of the time scheduled for classes and show creativity and excitement with their classes to the best of their ability.
- Instructors are responsible for developing the activities, games, and instruction.
- Instructors are responsible for insuring that the equipment that they will be using for class has the necessary and required safety and teaching equipment, before the class begins.
- At the end of the day, Instructors are responsible for making sure that all equipment, are properly secured and put away, and that any extraneous equipment or materials (including trash) has been removed.
- Instructors are responsible for reporting accidents/illness, both minor and serious to the appropriate chain of command, and for making the appropriate notes in the Injury Log.
- Arrive and be ready to begin work at the scheduled time, dressed in appropriate attire.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Minimum 1-2 years’ experience teaching basketball.
- Demonstrated maturity, reliability, initiative and responsibility.
- Ability to provide excellent guest service and the ability to positively interact with guests on a daily basis.
SUPERVISION
Under the general direction of the Recreation Services Manager, the individual must be self-motivated and capable of initiating and developing tasks on a regular basis. The individual will perform projects as assigned by the Superintendent. The employee is responsible for prioritizing work tasks, and for identifying and utilizing the appropriate resources to resolve a problem or situation and/or research and analyze specific data. Guidance is provided through departmental policies, Park District operating practices and procedures, and other resources as applicable to the specific project assigned. Work is evaluated at least annually, with respect to problem-solving ability, customer service, research and analytical skills, written and verbal communication skills, and performance in accordance with this classification standard.
