Position Title: Communications Associate

Position
J Street seeks a talented writer and content creator to join our communications team as a Communications Associate or Senior Communications Associate (depending on level of experience).
The successful candidate will be a savvy and creative storyteller, able to write in a range of voices and formats, with a passion for movement-building and sensitivity to nuance.
They will care deeply about advocating for diplomacy-first US policies and building a powerful, inclusive political home for pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy Americans.
The person in this position must be comfortable working on a sensitive and rapidly evolving issue within a team that values collaboration, professional development, problem-solving and a sense of humor. They must think on their feet, pitch projects and contribute ideas, and write for an array of different audiences and purposes. Strong interpersonal skills in building productive relationships with staff, partners and supporters will be an asset.
The position is situated within our integrated communications and digital teams and offers the opportunity to produce a wide variety of incisive and informative content for both online and offline platforms.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Pitch and draft a wide range of online and offline content including op-eds, press releases, talking points, advocacy and fundraising emails, blog posts and social media posts.
- Advise staff and volunteer leaders on messaging for local op-eds and letters to the editor.
- Edit supporter-generated content to get it in publishable form, including working with student leaders.
- Compile and send J Street’s widely-read News Roundup email each weekday morning.
- Help to implement and send J Street’s emails and other communications via our mail system and other digital platforms.

- A minimum of 1 years of experience in communications, preferably for an advocacy group or campaign, or in journalism
- Ability to produce clean, compelling, immediately usable copy, and to constructively give edits and take edits
- Exceptional writing with proven ability to write in a range of voices or formats
- Ability to write under frequent news and organizational deadlines
- Broad familiarity with J Street’s issues and positioning, particularly with regard to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and US foreign policy in the Middle East
Bonus Skills (Not Required)
- Experience writing fundraising emails and action emails
- Any journalistic experience (including at high school or college level)
- Experience with basic HTML, image editing or video editing
- Experience editing and proofing the work of others
- Experience with ActionKit or WordPress, or similar platforms such as MailChimp, Wix, Drupal or other CMS or mail systems
- Experience working within messaging guides or frameworks

Compensation, Benefits, and Employee Status
This is a full-time non-exempt position, with occasional work outside traditional work hours on an as-needed basis.The salary range for this position runs from $46,500-50,500. Per J Street’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, pay and title are commensurate with experience and according to pay bands outlined in our CBA.
