MHC has an immediate Full-Time opening (Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm) for a Wellness Specialist position in our GROW program. This position will require travel to our various locations (Waterbury, Bridgeport, Stamford, Torrington, Danbury, and West Hartford) but will be based in the Waterbury area. This position is responsible for assisting the Program Coordinator in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the GROW program. This position engages individuals to participate in GROW activities, assists with program curriculum, product generation and program solicitation in the community.

Salary: $17.25 per hour. MHC offers a competitive benefits package which includes:

Requirements

The GROW Program Specialist responsibilities include:
• Assist Program Coordinator with solicitation, engagement and orientation to Horticultural programing.
• Work with Program Coordinator to manage nurseries that grow horticultural plants for program participants, for display or exhibition, or for research or donation.
• Conduct routinely scheduled groups at each site of the program and documents all program participant contact and attendance.
• Assist direct care staff in providing effective, quality, and recovery oriented services in the program using Evidence Based Practices.
• Provide routine feedback on program curriculum impact and provide recommendations for revisions or additions.
• Assist with monitoring program census, participant engagement and product generation
• Tour work areas to observe work being done, to inspect crops, and to evaluate plant and soil conditions.
• Monitor facilities and operational systems.
• Determine plant growing conditions, such as greenhouses, hydroponics, or natural settings, and set planting and care schedules.
• Perform manual agriculture, aquaculture, or horticulture tasks, included but not limited to: constructing structures and accessories such as greenhouses and benches; cutting and pruning trees, shrubs, flowers, and plants. Inspect facilities and equipment for signs of disrepair, and perform necessary manual labor/maintenance work.
• Prepare soil for planting, and plant or transplant seeds, bulbs, and cuttings.
• Provide information and advise staff/program participants on the care of trees, shrubs, flowers, plants, and lawns.
• Train staff/program participants in gardening techniques. Assign work schedules and duties to nursery or greenhouse workers, and supervise their work.
• Adhere to organizational policies and procedures in addition to explaining and enforcing safety regulations and policies regarding the program.
• Maintain clerical, record-keeping and inventory as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
• Associates Degree in Psychology, Social Science or related field or minimum of three years equivalent work experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Demonstrated experience or work history in Gardening/Horticultural environments.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
• Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) certification preferred, but not required.
• Valid CT driver’s license and auto registration and insurance.
