The anticipated salary range for this role is between $123,000.00 and $175,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

The Business Process Planning (“BPP”) Group is currently seeking an individual with a high-energy level and a passion for understanding operational frameworks and processes. The group’s purpose is to accelerate the organization’s rate of change by working with key stakeholders to review current practices/processes and explore opportunities for improvement. The primary responsibility of the VP Business Manager is to work closely with the FinOp Business Manager to help facilitate the execution of the target operating model for this area. This role will support both the SMBC Nikko Securities America, Inc. (“Nikko”) and SMBC Capital Markets, Inc. (“CM”) entities and will have a reporting line into the Head of Business Process Planning Group (BPP).

The objective of the VP Business Manager is to provide support to the Operations departments to help facilitate the execution of the target operating models for these areas. The role is also responsible for collaborating with various stakeholders on reporting, dashboards and senior management level presentations aligned with the book of work for the Operations groups. The individual will be expected to work collaboratively across numerous areas/departments in an effort to help drive operational efficiencies. Key stakeholder engagement will be expected with (but not limited to) the Operations, Planning, Finance, and Human Resources teams.

Role Objectives

The job responsibilities are described herein, but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with the FinOp Business Manager to consolidate the CM and Nikko data/information into a single representation for senior management.
  • Assist in the preparation and consolidation of monthly working papers for the FinOp Business Manager to facilitate senior-level discussion
  • Produce high quality workflow diagrams, dashboards, documents, and presentations for reviewing key performance indicators
  • Assist in the preparation of HR/Recruitment reports specific to FinOp areas inclusive of tracking staff movement to monitor progress against headcount plans
  • Apply subject matter expertise to draft high-quality management briefings across a range of topics to summarize status and progress in key areas of delivery
  • Investigate and identify areas for improvements to the existing structure
  • Support ad hoc projects as directed by the Head of Business Process Planning, FinOp Business Manager and/or Head of Operations
  • Effectively manage multiple projects/requests across the changing priorities of the various product areas and collaborate within multiple stakeholders where appropriate

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with all levels of support and business partners
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, along with ability to quickly learn new programs and applications
  • High level customer service mindset with a commitment to supporting key stakeholders
  • Detail-Oriented but does not lose sight of the big picture
  • Forward thinker who seeks to improve business processes that deliver better services; Ability to creatively identify opportunities for process improvements
  • Pro-actively identify and raise risks, issues
  • Advanced planning and organizing skills to deliver workload in timely manner
  • Self-starter, Self-motivated, takes ownership, takes consultative approach in ambiguous business environment
  • Cross-functional team experience strongly recommended
  • 5 to 7 years of specialized experience in Financial Services
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Business Administration or related fields.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Powerpoint, Visio, Excel, and SharePoint
