Job Description
Do you love pop culture and entertainment news? Do you have a passion for organization, management, and research? The Visual Clearance Specialist will secure, clear, deliver and track creative content assets around a variety of topics including entertainment news, human interest, and celebrity features for the E! News Digital team. Reporting to Production Management, as well as working closely with our Digital Editorial teams and the shows partners, this role will be responsible for the oversight of the visual clearance process and clearance budget, and other administrative support for a large digital entertainment news website and social media channels.
This position requires the ability to work collaboratively with a small team to ensure all editorial needs, clearance risks and costs are communicated efficiently and executed flawlessly. Ability to work with digital leaders and editors and their support teams while addressing production objectives is a necessity. This position will handle the day-to-day oversight of the photo, visual and digital clearances, including music, paparazzi photos, agency photos, clearing social media videos and photos, reaching out for permission on assets, budget, and numerous subscriptions and clearance resources. The ability to work with both agencies, feel comfortable in communication with third parties, handle clearances for large-scale events and day-to-day news and more is required. In addition, this position may need to create galleries, crop photos, and create photo or visual assets for the digital editorial team as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day function of photo/visual/video/social clearance department
- Working with producers and their teams to acquire and license creative assets
- Provide oversight of costs, agreements, and usage of third-party intellectual property
- Work collaboratively with Production, music and editorial teams
- Identify risks and have a clear understanding of Fair Use practices in conjunction with legal
- Work with industry contacts/subscription agencies to negotiate fees and help secure appropriate rights
- Utilize research techniques to gather photo, video clip and graphic elements from Web and social media for the digital editorial team
- Identify any clearance, copyright and standards restrictions for requested elements
- Contact story subjects/guests to secure rights and clearances for videos, images, social media etc
- Create galleries, download assets, crop photos and support photo-heavy events and award shows and news events for editorial teams
- Work with a sense of urgency in a breaking news environment – must be able to quickly find, secure and hand off assets to editorial teams
- Very strong knowledge of celebrity or entertainment knowledge and ability to fact check who appears in photos to maintain news brand accuracy
- Work on budgets to make sure that the photo/visuals team is not over-spending on assets
- Ability to support all types of editorial functions: e-commerce teams, live from the red carpet, entertainment news coverage, social and more
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience with TV clearance in talk, news, journalism, or other relevant entertainment
- Extraordinary organizational skills
- Strong management skills
- College degree or equivalent work experience
- Extensive knowledge of TV, film, music, sports, pop culture and current events personalities and ability to identify individuals
- Familiarity with content and functionality of various social media platforms
- Expertise with Outlook Office, FileMaker Pro, digital asset management, ACDSee, ENPS delivery systems, and iNews
- Must be willing to work in-person in Universal City, CA

Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

Salary range: $62,000-$75,000
