Official Position Description:
In the Division of Engineering, Office of Geotechnical Engineering, independently manages complex projects by generating &/or reviewing detailed drawings using CADD or drafting equipment & engineering principles. Utilizes computer & related software (e.g., MicroStation) for the detailed layout & drafting of geotechnical exploration plan sheets in accordance with the ODOT Specification of Geotechnical Explorations (SGE) & the ODOT Computer-Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) Engineering Standards. Prepares required reports relative to assigned projects/plans; prepares cost estimates; confers with supervisor or higher-level engineer regarding unusual or complex problems or to obtain approval on plans. Complies Geographic Informational System (GIS) based data using a computer & related software (e.g., MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, ArcMap, ArcPro, & Microsoft Office) to produce drawings & reports. Complies boring logs using a computer & related software (e.g., gINT); interprets field notes, field logs, survey data, survey notes, & laboratory data and presents the results. Prepares a summary of geotechnical explorations for presentation on Geotechnical Profile cover sheet. Presents boring logs in soil profile plans using a computer & related software (e.g., gINT, MicroStation, & OpenRoads Designer). Develops exploration plans in accordance with the SGE to field locate borings per the plan. Reduces & corrects positional data collected with a handheld gps unit. Perform quality assurance/quality control reviews of historical geotechnical data within the ODOT Transportation Information Mapping System (TIMS). Perform georeferencing of historic geotechnical information. Edits & appends data to databases utilized for both current and historic geotechnical information and data.
Assists in the operation of dynamic cone penetration (DCP) & cone penetration test (CPT) equipment; assists in the field operations of geophysical surveys, pressuremeter, rock dilatometer & vane shear testing. Completes monitoring of geotechnical instrumentation installed at various locations through the state to provide necessary information for design, maintenance & construction. Assist with laboratory geotechnical testing. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
2 yrs. exp. as Transportation Technician 1, 85873, with experience to be commensurate with position to be filled.
-Or completion of associate degree program in engineering technology; 5 yrs. engineering related technical experience in simple & standard construction/ rehabilitation/maintenance projects or planning & design of simple & standard civil engineering projects or materials testing, with experience to be commensurate with position to be filled.
-Or 7 yrs. trg. or 7 yrs. exp. in engineering related technical experience in simple & standard construction/rehabilitation/maintenance projects or planning & design of simple & standard civil engineering projects or materials testing, with experience to be commensurate with positions to be filled.
