Training and Community Health Worker Coordinator – HEALTH

The Training and Community Health Worker Coordinator is a key position to strategically link community health workers with populations at risk of overdose and to provide and coordinate trainings on harm reduction and substance use disorder. This work improves community health by preventing disease and promoting wellness. The Coordinator supervises three community workers placed in different agencies in Sedgwick County; the Coordinator may work in those locations during absences. Employee will provide support during public health emergencies.

Strategically lead linkage to care initiatives for people at risk of overdose

  • Identify locations and schedule staff where people at risk of overdose need connections to community resources, including recovery and harm reduction
  • Implement and evaluate staff linkage to care activities
  • Create and maintain a system to monitor and collect data on partner linkage to care activities with agencies throughout Sedgwick County
  • Develop and implement outreach events with partners and in partner locations
  • Participate in activities that strengthen the collaborative process within the community

Provide and coordinate substance use-related trainings in Sedgwick County working with partners

  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners
  • Manage partner contracts, ensuring work is documented and completed according to the contract
  • Develop and implement in-person, virtual and hybrid trainings with contractual partners for the community, for medical providers, and for public safety.
  • Develop and monitor pre/post evaluations of each training, ensuring the results are analyzed and reported.
  • Provide harm reduction trainings to individuals who will discuss overdose education and naloxone use with people at risk of overdose.

Supervision and Employee Development

  • Provide regular supervision and coaching for direct reports who are placed in different locations
  • Work with partner locations to ensure staff placed in the locations are meeting performance expectations
  • Facilitate staff onboarding and coordinate the full life cycle recruitment process
  • Ensure program staff are adequately trained and follow standards to advance the Health Department’s mission and individual growth
  • Regularly update staff job tasks and responsibilities, including expectations for staff

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Communications or a related field. Education may be substituted for experience, with one year of education for one year of experience. Two years of supervisory experience, experience evaluating staff performance, or experience evaluating program performance. One year of experience working with community organizations. One year of experience or training in data management and/or data analysis. Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Must complete Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) IS 100 and 700 courses within 30 days of employment. Obtain Community Health Worker certificate within 1 year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in business, public health, or related public service field. Three years of experience in data management and/or data analysis. Three years of experience leading projects with community organizations. Two years of work experience in a healthcare clinic, hospital, or state or local health department. Proficiency in English and a language other than English; proficiency is demonstrated by passing a standardized test. Kansas Certified Peer Mentor (KCPM). Community Health Worker certificate.
