Overview
Under the direction of McCormick Place’s Traffic/Parking Manager, the Traffic Coordinator is responsible for providing curbside support surrounding the venue and adjoining roadways, parking, loading dock operations, logistics, operations of McCormick Place and the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA). Prioritizes the movement of vehicular traffic (including private vehicles, taxicabs, shuttle buses, trucks, Livery Service, rideshare and Emergency Vehicles) entering and exiting the venue. This also includes working closely with internal MPEA & McCormick Place Departments, contract partners, vendors and the City of Chicago.
This role will pay a wage of $24 to $33 per hour.

About the Venue
McCormick Place located in downtown Chicago is the largest and most flexible convention center in North America., With over 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space, the campus proudly hosts some of the world’s largest and most prestigious conventions, meetings, and trade shows, welcoming approximately 3 million visitors to Chicago every year.
Responsibilities
- Assists with directing the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic around the venue. Vehicles include private vehicles, taxicabs, shuttle buses, trucks rideshare, and emergency vehicles.
- Manages and monitors traffic flow on Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and adjoining streets
- Assists in all pedestrian movement on Dr. Martin Luther Drive from move-in, event days, to move-out for facility.
- Assist with move-in and move-out operations, truck marshaling, off-site parking/ truck marshalling, valet operations, hotel and onsite shuttle operations, taxi/rideshare curbside management, and variable message sign deployment.
- Communicates to all departments and employees regarding parking and transportation related matters.
- Assists with the venues loading dock operations.
- Monitor vehicles and pedestrians on routes throughout events.
- Assists the Public Safety Department to ensure a safe and secure environment during events.
- Notifies security dispatcher of suspicious persons or activities.
- Ensures that the venue rules and safety standards are followed.
- Responds to emergency situations according to established procedures (corporate or MPEA), emergency evacuation plans, and acts as a member of the emergency response team, as directed.
- Provide superior customer service to internal and external clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma / GED preferred.
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience in transportation/shipping/ receiving/ logistics/ operations strongly preferred.
- Possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- Must have demonstrated ability to perform effectively under stressful situations and within a fast paced, high-pressure environment.
- Knowledge of supervisory skills including how to motivate, support and involve employees in accomplishing goals and objectives.
- Demonstrated cash handling and basic accounting experience.
- Ability to safely and accurately handle and account for large sums of money.
- Computer skills including Windows Outlook, Word, Excel and ADP Payroll highly recommended.
- Ability to utilize both manual as well as computerized parking systems.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to pass extensive criminal background and credit checks.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule beyond normal business hours, including long hours, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
