Temporary – Internal Communications Specialist

Hourly salary range is $19.23 to $52.88, with a midpoint of $36.05. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Under general direction from the Internal Communications Supervisor, provides support for internal communications programs, projects and events including the intranet replacement project, agencywide internal events and writing and editing support for the agency’s intranet and internal newsletter. The Internal Communications Specialist supports the agency goals of culture and alignment, transforming Sound Transit to enable unity and focus. Must be a clear and concise writer and exhibit developing project management skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Support the launch of a new intranet platform and the rolling launch of intranet features.
  • Assist in content migration efforts from a legacy intranet platform to a new, modern intranet solution to allow for archiving of previous system.
  • Collaborate with and support departments on content development for the agency’s intranet.
  • Coordinate intranet replacement project and event planning meetings including scheduling, attendee communications, agenda setting, note taking and tracking follow up/assignments.
  • Support user training materials development, including writing and copy-editing materials.
  • Research, write and edit content for the agency’s newsletter and intranet.
  • Support agencywide internal events such as quarterly all-hands meetings and system expansion project opening events.
  • Support the development of an employee experience logistical plan for system expansion opening events.
  • Champions and models Sound Transit’s core values and demonstrates values-based behaviors in everyday interactions across the agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or closely related field and three years of experience marketing/communications, intranet support, event coordination, or related role OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to learn new computer software and web-based applications.
  • AP writing style.
  • Principles of research, writing, editing.
  • Process design and continuous process improvement.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented and able to multitask.
  • Event planning principles and practices including integrated communications coordination.
  • Establishing relationships and collaborating with teams across disciplines to meet deadlines and produce quality products.
  • Coordinating work plans, including tracking deliverables, deadlines and assignments, facilitating review and approval processes, fact-checking, proofreading and applying established standards to ensure completeness, accuracy and quality.
  • Utilizing creative thinking to help with storytelling, internal event planning, employee-facing campaigns and other promotions.
  • Software programs such as Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Power Point, Teams, etc.).

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiarity with principles and practices of employee-facing websites and other collaborative technologies.
  • Basic graphic design and photo editing.

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
