Lead Technical Animator

Description

ProbablyMonsters is looking for a creative, technical, and team focused Lead Technical Animator. You will join a team in the early stages of developing a new franchise. Our team will be focusing on action game play, world building, level design, AI, and character design during the early pre-production phase.

The salary range for this position is $147,816.00 to $221,724.00. This range represents the salary for the position commensurate with experience, knowledge, and demonstrated success in the field.
WHO YOU ARE:

  • You love creating animator-friendly rigs and related systems and enjoy working closely with animators to better empower them.
  • You are highly experienced and knowledgeable in rigging technologies and 3rd party rigging tools.
  • You are proficient in scripting to streamline the animation pipeline (Python, MEL or other scripting languages) to aid workflows and repetitive tasks.
  • You understand the importance of documenting workflows and sharing knowledge.
  • You provide clear written and verbal feedback and direction, and are effective at presenting your positions and ideas to positively influence the project.
  • You are an emotionally intelligent manager who is enthusiastic about mentoring and coaching other professional creatives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Strategize and create rigs and rigging tools from the ground up and update and maintain them throughout production.
  • Skin characters and their equipment.
  • Be a conduit to other disciplines and stakeholders of animation systems, such as animators, character artists and technical artists.
  • Help coordinate the effort to establish workflows and best practices for the animation discipline.
  • Manage other technical animators and develop a strategy for how the technical animation department will realize the animation goals of the project.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A portfolio, reel or website demonstrating rigging projects that demonstrate a mastery of character and creature rigging.
  • Experience making autorigging tools.
  • Experience making retargeting tools.
  • Expert knowledge in Maya
  • Experience rigging characters on games that have shipped.
  • At least 7+ years of experience as a technical animator/artist working on character rigs and 3+ years as a manager.
