Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is currently seeking a part-time Support Technician! Working nder the direction of the Area IT Director – College of Technology and Computing, supports IT systems for faculty, staff and student users. Repairs IT systems including desktop and laptop computers. Installs and maintains basic hardware and software. Documents and maintains technical procedures and responds to user requests and service calls.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00AM – 1:00PM with occasional Saturdays
Summary of Responsibilities
- Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, configures and maintains hardware, software, wireless devices and operating systems including Windows, Mac and peripheral devices – including networked and local printers, PDA’s and projectors
- Trains and maintains communication with faculty, staff, students and employees in a variety of computer platforms on hardware, software and networking needs.
- Updates and deploys software images on PC and Mac computers.
- Performs specific assigned tasks and researches solutions to technical problems. Utilizes help desk software to create, track and update work order requests.
Minimum Qualifications
This is a career ladder position with three levels with minimum qualifications as defined:
Level 1: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent and one year of any combination of computer related education and/or technical support and customer service experience related to the Summary of Duties.
Level 2: Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and two years of any combination of computer related education and/or technical support and customer service experience related to the Summary of Duties.
Level 3: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent and three years of any combination of computer related education and/or technical support and customer service experience related to the Summary of Duties. Must have helpdesk experience for at least one year.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems.
- Knowledge of various computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, PowerPoint, internet tools, diagnostic tools and email systems.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP and application network protocols, operating system configuration and anti-virus software.
- Demonstrated skills and experience working in a customer service, team-oriented collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated skills communicating to customers in a user-friendly manner.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in troubleshooting hardware and software problems and researching technical issues.
- Experience installing, troubleshooting and updating Windows and Mac operating systems. Experience installing troubleshooting and updating a wide variety of application software.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to be highly self-motivated.
