SUPERVISOR, PAYROLL TAX, ACCOUNTING & OPERATIONS

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

This position researches, analyzes, evaluates and performs financial reconciliations in support of the company’s payroll tax and HR operations functions. Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of payroll tax reporting. Leads department functions including but not limited to payroll tax set up, balancing and filing, W2 production, payroll-related journal entries and account reconciliations, new hire processing, audit, colleague data changes, and contractor security clearance. Directs and supervises the work of staff within the payroll tax, accounting and operations functions providing leadership, training, and support.

Human Resources Division

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Supervise, develop, train and support department staff. Provide development, coaching and performance feedback including preparation and delivery of formal performance appraisals. Provide manager with compensation recommendations as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with HR Systems, Finance, Technology & Innovation, and outside vendors for all workflow processes, system changes, issue resolution and new initiatives.
  • Manage the vendor relationship with UKG Payment Services and monitor SLAs.
  • Maintain the outstanding check list and regularly perform the due diligence in accordance with bank policy and state requirements. Prepare the annual escheatment list and coordinate the process with the appropriate bank departments.
  • Reconcile all QTD and YTD wage and tax totals. Run reports and research any discrepancies. Balance to vendor statements and process any quarterly adjustments, as needed.
  • Process all year-end transactions and preparation of W-2 forms. Coordinate with vendor for printing and mailing of applicable forms to current and former colleagues.
  • Prepare and post monthly payroll accruals.
  • Process all payroll related journal entries into the accounting system and ensure audit controls are followed. Reconcile all related general ledger accounts and make correcting entries.
  • Perform regular audits of HR system to ensure the integrity of company and colleague level data.
  • Ensure that all internal audit, SOX and FDICA controls are performed and validated. Actively participate in the annual audit review.
  • Recommend and implement change to enhance efficiency of department via automation, new technology, workflow changes.
  • Perform and support other department/division duties and special projects as needed. May lead specific projects or initiatives.
  • Respond to inquiries from colleagues to resolve problems and to ensure internal client satisfaction in a timely manner.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

Must-Have*

  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience with a staff of more than two required.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working in a corporation or banking institution with 4,000+ employees required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with HR and Accounting applications.
  • Thorough understanding of basic accounting principles, payroll and tax filing requirements.
  • Proficient in MS Excel.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of UKG and PeopleSoft applications preferred.
  • Ability to research and perform financial reconciliations with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Efficiently perform several tasks concurrently, handle sensitive data with integrity, confidentiality, and the utmost discretion.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable federal, state and local tax regulations and guidelines in a multi-state environment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management.
  • Knowledge of internal, SOX and FDICA audit processes and controls.

Compensation

Starting base salary: $92,114 – $156,880 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
