This is a Summer Student Intern appointment NTE 3 Months in the Pathways Program. Summer Internship may be extended. Upon successful completion of the Pathways Internship Program requirements in accordance with 5 CFR 362.204 (work experience hours, satisfactory performance, educational requirements, mandatory training completion, etc.) interns may be non-competitively converted to a term, career conditional or career appointment within 120 days to a position and grade deemed qualified.

Duties
This position is located in the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation’s Office of External Affairs. The Legislative and Public Affairs Pathways Intern will assist with managing DFC’s relationship with members and committees of the House and Senate including attending legislative hearings and assisting with various legislative research projects as assigned. The position will also work to highlight DFC’s mission and mandate to the media, stakeholders, and the general public.
The selected will perform the following duties:
– Markets and promotes DFC’s lines of business and programs to target audiences including the U.S. and international business communities, NGOs, key members of Congress and their staffs, and other government agencies and partners.
– Responsible for producing and packaging newsworthy materials and determining the best course of action for reaching a particular audience. This would include the development of supporting materials for news releases or major announcements such as video, information graphics, audio files, photos and blog posts.
– Provides written contributions to the website, blog, and other publications.
– Supports planning events to share information about DFC’s programs. This may include cooperating with private sector entities, doing advance work for briefings, conferences, speaking engagements, or DFC small business workshops and seminars; and may involve clients, elected officials, industry groups, professional service firms, NGOs, etc.
– Assists with the preparation of materials to inform the Corporation on matters pending before the United States Congress that could affect DFC and its operations. Assists in responding to Congressional policies, requests, and other developments.

No Specialized Experience.
GS-07: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor’s degree.
Qualifying education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Telework Suitability: The selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval and if they meet the eligibility criterion in the 2010 Telework Act.
Stipulations of Employment: The duration of an excepted service appointment in the Pathways Program is a trial period. Appointees must sign a Participant Agreement that sets forth the expectations for the Pathways Program. At the successful conclusion of this program, the agency may non-competitively convert individuals to a term (position lasting 1-4 years with an extension up to 120 days) or permanent position within the competitive service. Conversion to a Federal competitive service position will be at the discretion of the agency and is neither guaranteed nor implied.
To be eligible for conversion, Student Intern must:
- Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
- Complete their degree or certificate requirements
- Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
- Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant’s Agreement, and
- Perform their job successfully.
The Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school and while getting paid for the work performed. The position must be related to the student’s academic field of study or the student’s career interests.
