DESCRIPTION

Under supervision incumbent will independently work with transgenic mouse models, mice perfusion, dissection, and tissues collection. Responsible for organization and maintenance of large mouse colony comprised of multiple transgenic mouse lines. Will independently conduct mouse experiments including euthanasia, sample collection and processing, data collection and analysis. Will perform routine molecular biology techniques such as bacteria transformation, plasmid purification, RNAs extraction, PCR, qPCR, Western Blot, and restriction digest. Under instruction use aseptic technique on Mammalian cell cultures independently; conduct experiments including planning experiments and analyzing results. Laboratory management includes monitoring, ordering and receiving supplies, prepare biohazards and radioactive waste for collection according to safety regulations, and maintaining a functional, clean and orderly lab.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Theoretical knowledge of a biological science such as Biology, Microbiology or a related field. Knowledge of the basic science of Cardiovascular Diseases, including familiarity with general medical problems and terminology.
  • Experience in the management and modifications of the breeding colony including genotyping, euthanasia, breeding colony establishment, weaning, and maintaining inventory.
  • Experience in general techniques in molecular biology.
  • Experience in general techniques for mouse colony maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience in general laboratory techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision and to work closely and collaboratively with others including the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to measure, weigh, and mix chemicals.
  • Experience and ability to use various lab instruments including balance and autoclave.
  • Demonstrated experience in standard and repetitive molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA preparation.
  • Ability to prepare solutions at proper concentrations, operate analytical balances and perform accurate calculations.
  • Knowledge of library usage to locate journals in stacks and from other sources, and ability to copy specific articles for research.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to order and maintain lab equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety precautions including appropriate clothing and shoes, safe handling of chemicals, use of protective items such as gloves and goggles. Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs).

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $56,564 – $90,995 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.09 – $43.58

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
