JOB SUMMARY
Marriott’s Global Design Strategies team is looking for someone who blends great creative style with smart business sense and is excited about joining a team that thrives when/where design and travel converge. This person is agile enough to intertwine consumer insights and trends with design savvy to create integrated, meaningful experiences for our guests. As someone who helps develop design strategies and concepts, this candidate can not only see when something is working and when it’s not, can zero in on how to fix it without breaking the bank or compromising the big idea. This experience designer is a quick thinker, problem solver and a good communicator who is driven to succeed.
EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
- Thought Leadership
- Help develop new, growing brands, as well as reposition some of the industry’s most powerful brands
- Synthesize trends and happenings in other industries to create an informed point of view and drive the team forward
- Research latest design and technology developments within or outside the industry in order to establish GDS as a source of innovation and inspiration for brand design teams, supporting current and future facing projects
- Work side-by-side with cutting edge designers to create and bring to life guest-centric environments, knowing how to listen for valuable insights and when to share new ideas
- Present, collaborate and align with others from both within and outside Global Design
- Use excellent communication skills to identify, share and interpret pertinent information with team, global offices, and beyond when appropriate
- Liaise with Consumer Experience and other organizational partners in order to help develop a holistic approach to innovation and finding balance between creativity, feasibility and business results
- Demonstrating Quality
- Provide conceptual design studies, share ideas, and sketches
- Prototype at different fidelities to demonstrate ideas and get necessary feedback
- Develop fresh ideas and concepts through human-centered design methodologies
- Ability to research, identify, find and manage the right resources and partnerships.
- Share big ideas and savvy management skills to contribute to long term success of Global Design
- Continually search for innovative ways to establish The Innovation Floor as a creative breathing ground and platform in which ideas can be tried and revised in a rapid, efficient and cost-effective manner
- Support brand initiatives, innovation activities, and storytelling with both the global design segment leaders and GD communications
- Production Excellence
- Contribute ideas for constant improvement of our processes and deliverables
- Use design prowess and business sense to get the best decisions for projects and process.
- Assist with the final deliverables, ensuring the quality of the final output and seek feedback post initiative
- Work creatively and collaboratively on tight project deadlines and strict project budgets
- Shift gears from one project to another, guiding others and pitching in wherever is needed without hesitation
- Understand the vision, but keeps an eye on the ball, make decisions, and get things done
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and comfortable with non-hierarchical organization

- Ability to build & maintain strong working relationships and collaborate with a diverse team
- Thinks independently and fluidly and can speak to their ideas with passion and persuasion
- Ability to negotiate and be flexible when appropriate
- Strong project management skills & ability to manage multiple priorities & resources
- Ability to work in a self-directed environment and comfortable with ambiguity and decision making.
- Ability to prepare design presentations of portions of brand initiatives. Understands design, strategies and prototype documents.
- Mastery of all things digital like Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch-Up, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Microsoft Project
Education/Experience:
- 4-year degree from an accredited design program preferred
- Minimum 8 years’ professional experience with a minimum of 4 years preferably in the hospitality design field
- Spanish and English fluency required
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
California Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $93,713.00 to $204,107.00 annually.
Colorado Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $93,713.00 to $185,551.00 annually.
New York City & Westchester County, NY Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $113,393.00 to $204,107.00 annually.
Washington Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $93,713.00 to $204,107.00 annually. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible to receive an annual bonus. Employees will accrue 0.04616 PTO balance for every hour worked and eligible to receive minimum of 7 holidays annually.
