Sr Teaching Artist

Position Summary: Senior Teaching Artists are key members of the Programs team who work directly with the Museum’s
diverse audience of children and families. Skilled in both the arts and teaching, they execute programs by engaging participants in
hands-on activities. They perform in a dynamic group environment and work collaboratively to deliver high levels of creative
engagement. This position is supervised daily by Programs administration and reports to and is evaluated by the Director of
Education.

Essential Functions:
• Facilitates early childhood and caregiver programs, school-age programs, camps and other fee-based classes, onsite studio spaces and workshops, outreach and school and community partnership programs, and other special programs as assigned.
• Works with Programs department administrative team to create program curriculum and supply lists, as needed.
• Supports Education with annual fall Educators’ Night Out and annual spring Toddler Fest events, and other events as needed.
• Supports Community Resource Manager and other EE administration with annual Mass Creativity program workshops and Day, pARTners in Creativity, and other outreach efforts.
• Helps to organize, clean, and maintain all classroom, studio, and workshop spaces and the Arts Education Center.
• Supports behind-the-scenes program prep and kit making assembly.
• Ensures the safety, orientation and comfort of program participants and provides excellent customer service.
• Maintains communication with supervisors and team members in person and via email.
• Assists with training new Teaching Artist staff and with on-going mentoring needs.
• Attends weekly, mandatory meetings and monthly training, as scheduled.
• Participates in program reflective practices, observations, and assessments as assigned.
• Occasionally scheduled to act as support for Visitor Engagement floor team.
• Additional duties as required.

Requirements:

Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts, Education, Early Childhood Development, or related-field or equivalent work experience
• Minimum of one (1) year experience with teaching and/or artmaking to children
• Minimum two (2) years’ experience working with children and/or families in a private and/or professional setting, preferably in a museum, school, daycare center, or as a nanny or tutor

• Knowledge of early childhood development, hands-on artmaking, and group management a plus.
• Strong customer service and teamwork experience.
• Understands the needs of children and families of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities.
• Able to communicate effectively and perform work in a public, high-energy environment.
• Outgoing, friendly manner and ability to promote the Museum’s mission and sales with ease.
• Positive attitude and excellent team player.
• Extremely reliable and dependable.
• Highly adaptable, collaborative, flexible, and able to problem solve creatively.

• Adaptability: prioritizes and manages competing demands; changes approach or method to best fit the situation; able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
• Willingness to be certified in First Aid and CPR.
• Must successfully complete a background check
• Provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster (if eligible)
• Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.

confined spaces (Museum installations). The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move up to 30 pounds.

Environment
Work will be conducted both indoors and outdoors with changes in weather to include high heat or cold temperatures with
medium to high noise levels.
