Sr. Quantitative Research Analyst

Principal is seeking a dedicated Sr. Quantitative Research Analyst to join Principal Asset Management as part of our Real Estate Investment (PrinRE) team, which manages over $100 billion in assets. This individual will be a key contributor to strategically aligned initiatives, co-creating new and innovative products with the potential to shape the industry. What you will do in this role:

Develop advanced statistical analysis and models to support all critical real estate functions investment decisions including, but not limited to:

  • Strategic risk management, underwriting, performance forecast, and portfolio construction
  • Collaborate with investment management professionals, research, and technology partners to identify, scope, and implement strategic opportunities using data and applied mathematics at scale
  • Continuous improvement on performance for PrinRE
  • Contribute thought capital including white papers and other formats to maintain and enhance standing with clients and industry
  • Research and apply knowledge of existing and emerging data science principles, theories, and techniques to inform investment decisions
  • Support research, due diligence, and implementation of third-party data and PropTech solutions being evaluated by various partners within PrinRE
  • Develop domain expertise with various external vendors
  • Serve as subject matter expert for all data science related efforts within PrinRE and support learning and development efforts with junior analysts and others
  • Own the scoping and development of our statistical models and contribute to thought leadership for clients and internal partners
  • Work closely with seasoned investment professionals, engineers, and other partners to scale our research platforms to support the needs of our clients

Who You Are

  • You have a M.S. (Ph.D. preferred) in quantitative subject area (Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operation Research, etc.) and 6+ years (4+ if Ph.D.) of experience building ML-based solutions
  • You have experience building large scale machine learning models to support investment decisions as well as proficiency with languages like Python, R, Scala, etc.
  • You are collaborative, innovative and have a strong desire to continuously learn and adapt

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, Spark ML, etc
  • Cloud computing platform experience (AWS)
  • Experience with AWS Sagemaker
  • Familiarity with visualization software such as Quicksight, PowerBI, and web applications development tools like Dash
  • Commercial Real Estate or capital market research exposure a plus

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range

$123000 – $167000 / year

Work Environments

This role offers the ability for in-office, hybrid (blending both office and remote work in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements. You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
