Job Summary

Transmission & Distribution Operations Department is seeking qualified Senior Operations Supervisor whose primary role is to manage both Union and Management employees in order to safely and efficiently operate and maintain the electric distribution and transmission system during storms and non-storm conditions. In addition to responding to electric emergencies and customer inquiries regarding power quality, T&D Operations is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the electric distribution and transmission system.

Job Responsibilities

Supervise the field operation and maintenance of electric distribution system and the inspection of the electric transmission system.

Directly supervise a rotating shift of Union and MAST field personnel in special or complex operating situations, some which occur on off hour basis in order to safely and efficiently operate and maintain the electric distribution and transmission system during storms and non-storm conditions.

Responsible for assuring annual regulatory training is completed by Servicemen.

Promote a strong safety culture including coaching, counseling and continuous improvement audits and conducting job site observations. Lead and conduct monthly safety and information sessions.

Investigate customer inquires and complaints.

Serve as expert witness on behalf of company matters in Civil Courts and Examinations Before Trials (EBTs).

Manage department capital tool budget including procurement of tools/equipment and invoice processing. Manage vehicle replacements and purchases.

Lead or participate in various Committee and Task Force activities related to Work Methods, tools, safety, yard, trucks and material.

Job Specific Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical degree (computer science, biology, chemistry etc) with a minimum of 4 years experience in an electric utility environment in the design, planning, construction or operation of electric distribution & transmission systems OR a minimum of 3 years work experience as a Distribution System Operator.

In lieu of a degree applicant must have 10 years’ experience in a leadership role managing an electric distribution system in a control room environment.

Thorough knowledge of Outage Management System and SAS reports.
Working knowledge of the operation and capabilities of the distribution system and various distribution class equipment such as Remote Supervisory Switches, Substation Breakers, Automatic Throw-overs, Circuit Reclosers, Regulators, Capacitor Banks, Transformers and field switches.
Must have experience managing or supervising a team with the ability to build effective, respectful and working relationships.
Effective leadership, team building, problem resolution skills and the ability to supervise others are also required to manage a 24 x 7 operation.
Understanding of Collective Bargaining Agreement and applicable work methods.
Verbal and written communication must be clear, concise and effective.
Demonstrated logical and analytical thinking is essential.
A valid US Drivers License with a safe and satisfactory driving history.

Desired:
Advanced degree in Engineering
Experience in trouble shooting Customer power Quality issues and responding to electric distribution system emergencies is preferred.
Thorough knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for IBEW local 1049
The ability to plan and control field and control room operations is strongly preferred.
