The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the hub of learning, research, and academic excellence at the University of Oregon. The mission of the CAS Business Office (CBO) is to provide consistency through centralized services, providing expertise in a wide variety of business operation areas of budget and finance, human resources, purchasing and contracting, grant administration, donor stewardship, and event and creative services. We are committed to providing superior customer service while creating strong partnerships with our customers and campus partners. The CBO acts as a liaison to the central offices, Business Affairs Office, Purchasing and Contracting Services, University Human Resources, Payroll Administration, Budget and Resource Planning, and Grant Administration.
Position Summary
The Sr. Graphic Designer reports to the Associate Director of Operations and Creative Services and is responsible for designing high-quality marketing and branding materials for the College of Arts and Sciences in compliance with brand standards as set by University Communications. This position works in conjunction with the CAS Sr Director of Communications. The senior graphic designer’s responsibilities include managing all graphic design tasks, refining projects and drafts, and generating creative ideas. This work includes designing for digital, social, web, video, print, and environmental. The Senior Graphic Designer will serve as a brand ambassador, working closely with the UO and CAS communications teams.
Additional responsibilities include the following:
• Keep current in both digital and print design trends, technology, and platforms; consider how and when it would be beneficial to experiment and integrate them into specific deliverables and/or the visual brand.
• Develop timelines and production schedules through a project management system.
• Educate and provide solutions for assigned clients to follow UO style guidelines.
• Perform special projects as assigned.
The Senior Graphic Designer will have responsibility for independently developing concepts or projects and supervising student employees. This position regularly requires exercising independent judgment and building a comprehensive knowledge of the University of Oregon, its programs, and personnel, as well as the ability to take initiative and work flexibly. This position will promote a culture of mutual respect and collegiality, while incorporating principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
Minimum Requirements
• Six years of Graphic Design experience; OR
• Associates Degree and five years of Graphic Design experience; OR
• Bachelor’s Degree and four years of Graphic Design experience.
The degree may be in Graphic Design, Graphic Art, Fine Art, or a closely related field.
Professional Competencies
• Full knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, and proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign. CSS and HTML skills are also desired.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Creative skills, such as Illustration, motion graphics and web design.
• Ability to use a project management system.
• Ability to take creative feedback, execute, and iterate quickly and efficiently.
• Commitment to and experience with promoting and enhancing diversity and equity.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills including the ability to meet independent and team deadlines within defined budgets.
• Strong attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced appreciation for the difference between digital and print communications related to content delivery, artwork preparation, production, and graphic design considerations.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate as part of a cross-functional team.
• Experience working on quick-turn projects.
• Experience working independently with budget restrictions.
