Position Title: Senior Cloud Platform Engineer, Observability (P4)

Role:
As a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer, Observability, you will design platforms tailored for comprehensive observability. Beyond simply maintaining systems, you will lead their evolution and leverage your experience to develop solutions for scalable, efficient, and holistic observability across all infrastructure, applications, and services. As a a technical advisor, you will implement end-to-end observability at Crown Castle. You will collaborate with diverse teams, including end users, digital engineering, and operations teams, to ensure a unified approach to achieve observability goals.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain advanced observability solutions across both on-premises and cloud platforms
- Engage with stakeholders to understand observability requirements and translate them into actionable insights
- Ensure the observability platform’s reliability, scalability, and performance
- Foster our cloud-first strategy through essential tooling and capabilities
- Continuously update knowledge on emerging services, technologies, and best practices
- Collaborate with the Cloud Platform Engineering team to embed observability solutions into development and deployment workflows
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of best practices
- Lead and inspire cross-functional teams, ensuring seamless integration of observability solutions
- Proactively identify and rectify performance bottlenecks
- Play an active role in industry and knowledge reference groups
- Drive innovation by designing tools for metric collection, analysis, and reporting

Education / Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Advanced cloud certifications in AWS and other cloud technologies preferred
Experience / Minimum Requirements:
- 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on cloud technologies and observability
- 5+ years of experience with major AWS services, and cutting-edge observability technologies like Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, DataDog, etc.
- Proven track record of designing and implementing scalable and reliable observability solutions
- Proficiency in leveraging AI-driven analytics for IT operations, transforming reactive processes to proactive solutions using machine learning
- Proficiency in managing fiber-optic networking and communication systems for high-speed, reliable data transmission between data centers and cloud providers
- Experience with event-driven observability, enabling real-time insights and responses based on specific system events
- Comprehensive understanding of SDLC best practices and agile methodologies
- Scripting experience such as Python/Bash and familiarity with containerized solutions like Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift
Working Conditions: This is a remote role with the expectation of occasional on-site/in-person collaboration with teammates and stakeholders that may require up to 15% travel.
For New York, Colorado, California and Washington residents – The hiring range offered for this position is $125,000- $160,000 annually. In addition to salary, employees are eligible for an annual bonus of up to 20% of annual salary and restricted stock. Employees (and their families) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Employees will also receive 18 days of paid time off each year and 12 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
