Sports Assistant (Temporary)

Job Description

Salary: $15.70 Hourly

Work Location: Depends on assignment.
Work Hours: Variable work hours including evenings and weekends, up to 20 hours per week.
FLSA Status:This is an Non-Exempt position.

Department: Parks & Outdoors

SUMMARY

Incumbents in this classification are temporary or seasonal employees for the Department of Parks & Outdoors. Employment periods may range from one (1) to three (3) months.

Series Level: This is a stand-alone position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities.

Communicates with other sporting officials, coaches, facility managers, subordinates or the public by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person in order to provide information, coordinate activities and discuss problems;

Inspects sporting equipment and/or examine participants in order to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations;

Examines the playing surface before every game to ensure safe playing conditions; use appropriate signals and mechanics;

Maintains a high level of sportsmanship, and penalize unsporting behavior;

Communicates any problems or concerns to the supervisor; maintain all CYFD sports equipment; break down the activity area and put equipment up at the end of games if needed;

Communicates any problems and/or concerns to supervisor staff on hand; performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum qualifications are dependent upon position.

All positions: Must be able to pass a background check to work with children. Must be able to work when needed.

Must be at least 14 years of age. Must have good communication and public relation skills. Must be responsible and reliable.

Licensing and Certifications: None.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
