DESCRIPTION

As As a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center holds the highest possible rating for a U.S. cancer center. This designation is reserved for centers with experts in every medical subspecialty, pushing boundaries to improve approaches for preventing, diagnosing, and treating cancers. The UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center Speech Pathology program is a specialized service that offers assessment and treatment for speech, cognitive communication, voice, and swallowing disorders related to cancer.

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for delivery of all aspects of speech-language pathology services across the care continuum. Primary responsibilities include evaluation and treatment of speech, cognitive, voice, and swallowing disorders in an outpatient cancer center. In addition, they will be responsible for timely documentation, billing, and development of individualized treatment goals. They will perform objective diagnostic testing using state of the art equipment to evaluate functional performance. This includes videostroboscopy, flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) and video fluoroscopic swallowing studies (VFSS). The individual must possess strong communication skills and the ability to function fluidly and effectively within a dynamic multidisciplinary care team.

Related duties include maintaining a strong commitment to academic medicine through participation in clinical research as well as departmental, facility, and community-based education. The individual will participate in staff training as well as program development to foster growth and visibility in the local and broader medical community. The individual will also demonstrate competence in the UCSD Health System core values with an emphasis on continuous performance improvement and patient satisfaction.

Depending on the experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired as a Speech Pathologist or a Sr. Speech Pathologist level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an educational institution approved by the Board of Speech-Language Pathology, passage of a Board-approved examination.
  • Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) – issued by the state of California.
  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Certificate of clinical competence in speech pathology awarded by the American Speech and Hearing Association.
  • Two (2+) years experience as a licensed speech pathologist. Minimum of three (3) years experience as a licensed speech pathologist to be considered as a Sr. Speech-Language Pathologist;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three or more (3+) years of experience as a licensed speech pathologist in an inpatient or outpatient environment.
  • Experience in total laryngectomy and alaryngeal voice.
  • Background and experience in head and neck oncology.
  • Proficiency in Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study (VFSS) and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES).
  • Proficiency in speech-language and cognitive disorders management.
  • Experience working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting.

  • Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired as a Speech Pathologist or a Sr. Speech Pathologist level.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $89,951 – $118,703 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $43.08 – $56.85

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
