The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Space Flight Software Engineer to join the Space, Intelligence, and Weapons System (SI&WS) Division located in Colorado Springs, CO . This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.
We are seeking engineers that are passionate about space and excited to work in a multi-disciplined, collaborative engineering environment that supports the design, development, and implementation of software for existing and emerging Boeing proprietary space programs. Our team is currently hiring for a range of experience levels including: Associate, Experienced and, Lead Level Software Engineers.
This position will support the Global Positioning System (GPS) sustainment program located at Schriever Space Force Base about 10 miles east of Colorado Springs, CO. GPS is a satellite-based radio-navigation system owned by the United States government and operated by the United States Space Force. GPS is the world’s largest military satellite constellation and is the world’s only global utility. GPS provides position, navigation, and timing data to military and civilian users globally with countless applications and an unlimited number of users. Boeing has over 30 year’s history in GPS to include achieving full system capability in 1995.
The current Boeing team supports the US Space Force by sustaining and monitoring the health and capabilities of the 12 GPS Block IIF satellites in the GPS constellation launched from 2010 to 2016. The Boeing GPS sustainment team also provides support to its US Space Force customer with reports and expertise on all aspects of the GPS system. Sustainment efforts will continue through the life of the Block IIF satellites, with a design life expectancy of 2028 and beyond. The program is currently operating under a 10-year sustainment contract, from 2022 to 2031.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.
Primary Responsibilities and Expectations:
The successful candidate will support SpaceCraft Processor (SCP) Computer Software Configuration Item (CSCI) (SCPC) flight software development.
- Utilize Ada and other software languages to maintain/develop satellite flight software.
- Responsible for full life-cycle development including requirements analysis, software architecture, design, coding, unit test, integration and formal qualification.
- Communication payload resource control, data management and network interfaces.
- Candidate should possess excellent communications skills to participate in design and code reviews, have a thorough understanding of version control and software quality attributes, such as testability, portability and maintainability, and enjoy a self-driven and collaborative development approach.
- Agile Development within a cross-discipline team.
- Continuous integration, testing, and delivery within a CI/CD pipeline

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
- Bachelor, Master or Doctorate degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree.
- 2 or more years of software development experience in C, C++, or Ada using object-oriented design methods.
- 1 or more years of experience designing and developing software for a real time system.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance.
- Experience developing real-time embedded flight software in Ada.
- Experience developing software with manual memory management (C, C++, etc.)
- Experience with hardware interfaces, embedded processor architectures, I/O device drivers and board support packages.
- Experience working in an Agile software development environment utilizing collaboration tools such as GitLab, Jira, or Confluence.
- Experience working with a CI/CD pipeline.
Typical Education/Experience:
Associate (Level 2)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Experienced (Level 3)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Lead (Level 4)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range for Associate: $100,000 – $115,000
Summary pay range for Experienced: $123,000 – $141,000
Summary pay range for Lead: $144,000 – $165,000
