$18.03 – $21.92 Hourly / $1,442.40 – $1,753.60 Biweekly / $37,502.40 – $45,593.60 Annually
NATURE OF WORK:The primary function of a Social Service Aide is to assist professional staff in casework by interviewing clients, conducting home visits, training and on-going assessments. This position also transports clients, enters data into computer systems and provides referrals to community resources and assists clients in obtaining essential services. The position facilitates communication between professional staff and clients.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop professional relationships with a diverse client base; be able to work closely with team members of the Agency, community partners and family members; possess effective written and oral communication skills, excellent organization skills, ability to prioritize tasks; maintain calm and professional performance and demonstrate exceptional customer service working with client populations that have substance dependence, mental or physical health, trauma, or domestic violence history.
CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES:
A Social Service Aide may be required to take actions that conflict with his/her own values. A Social Service Aide must be able to accept clients’ differences and interact with them in a non-judgmental manner.
Examples of Duties
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Operates county vehicles to transport clients from their homes to medical appointments, job interviews, trainings, court and other necessary services. | Assists clients in completing forms and applications, explains program rules and regulations. | Reports and records observation of client interactions. | Supports program goals, methods, practices and procedures. | Performs basic office work including setting up appointments with clients, assembling information packets and other work as needed.

Education, Experience & Licenses
In addition to the education and experience requirements specified in the Merit Systems/Cooperative Personnel Services classification specification, Tehama County requires:
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Sixty (60) semester units or ninety (90) quarter units of college, including fifteen (15) semester units or twenty-two and one-half (22.5) quarter units in social welfare, social/human service, sociology, or other social or behavioral science;
OR
Two (2) years of full-time experience providing social services in a public or private setting to disadvantaged adults or children;
OR
A combination of education and comparable experience equivalent to two years of full-time experience which includes a minimum of fifteen (15) semester units or twenty-two and one-half (22.5) quarter units in social or behavioral science. When combining education and experience; fifteen (15) semester units or twenty-two and one-half (22.5) quarter units equal six months of experience.
*Examples of social or behavioral science courses include: anthropology, criminal justice, economics, education, ethnic studies, history, human development, law, nursing, nutrition, philosophy, political science, psychology, public health, religion, social welfare, sociology, welfare, women’s studies.
LICENSE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a valid California driver’s license.
