This position primarily involves a hybrid work schedule – working remotely: Monday & Friday / on site: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for effectively processing all insurance applications, evaluating individual consumer information to assess risk for life and disability coverage amounts
- Responsible for determining the appropriate level of requirements documentation necessary to evaluate individual risk and remain within New York Life guidelines
- Continual commitment for personal and professional development to include classroom, self-study, and on-the job training.
- Understands and communicates the products we sell, risk selection methodology, and effectively applies this understanding to the individual risk assessment
- Complete all necessary training and effectively demonstrates thorough understanding of:
- The tools and systems used
- Product knowledge
- Sales and Administration process
- End-to-end enrollment and underwriting processes
- Knowledge, understanding and interpretation of paramedical exams, lab results, attending physician statements, pharmacy prescription history and consumer medical information
- Compliance and legal requirements of medical underwriting
- Work in a team environment and self-manages own queue/caseload within company time, accuracy, and quality standards
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
- Knowledge in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical conditions a plus
- Prior medical underwriting, life claims or disability claims experience a plus
- Ability to manage and maintain production of an underwriting caseload
- Ability to manage and maintain quality performance within department standards
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the commitment to work successfully in a service- oriented team environment
