We are Very Big Things, an award-winning digital products agency. We are a team of builders and dreamers who bring custom digital experiences to life for innovative companies who dare to challenge the status quo. We believe that individuals are capable of extraordinary things and extraordinary people working together can change the world, and we’re excited to be “building a rocket ship” the old-fashioned way, with our 50% annual growth coming purely from the success of the business. If what we stand for and what we do resonates with you, we would love to talk.
What we believe in
- Happy Clients – We want our clients to be happy in the long term, which requires constant refocus on what their true long-term goals are, and then making decisions that help them to reach their long-term goals. In the short term, we need to make sure they are always confident that we are all on the same page with where we are going, where we are along the journey, and why we are going together. We are different from most agencies, we have made our path to success intrinsically tied to our client’s success.
- Exceptional Products – We create the most beautiful, intuitive, and innovative products, without exception. In order to bring these products to reality we need to collaborate constantly across all disciplines, and challenge and inspire each other to push to ask how we can make the product better than anything that has come before it.
- Happy Team – We take care of each other. We individually make sure that we are always as strong of a link in the chain as possible. We look for ways of helping the other links we all depend on to become stronger. We push each other to do more than we thought capable. We trust each other. We accomplish greatness together.
What you’ll do
Our Product teams figure out what needs to be built, and why. Clients come to us with visions of how they will change their industry and it is our job to create and refine the roadmap of how to get there. Your role will be to act as the master translator, extracting the visions of transformative change, the true desires of end-users, and the insights of your teammates to build the best possible product. You will partner with client executives and work cross-functionally both internally and externally. Success in this role can be abstracted into three primary areas: you are a catalyst for your team, a multiplier to your clients, and accountable to objective measures.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Hear the client – Establish a shared baseline of client goals, market positioning, and primary strategy
- Facilitate intellectual progress – Lead client discovery phases, yielding detailed product roadmaps and scoped features
- Learn from the market – Scope and execute tests and learning pursuits to build objective insights about a client’s market and potential customers
- Chart the way – Author documentation of product phases (product briefs, user stories, due diligence for key product considerations, etc.), providing your design and engineering teammates with what they need to succeed
- Measure outcomes – Design and implement analytics tracking plans that capture important metrics to inform future product development
- Level up together – Synthesize your learnings for the team and scale institutional knowledge
About you
- You love technology and fully embrace your “geek out” moments
- You find it easy to make people feel heard and they often reply “yes, exactly!”
- You are uncompromising about cutting corners, but know that the definitions of success must be shared and revisited over time
- You are adept at seeking out and extracting objective data and qualitative insights to inform a larger product direction or market strategy
- You are energized by the idea of building multiple products at once, across industries and technology types
What we expect
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
- Demonstrated understanding of the techniques and methods of modern product discovery and agile product development
- 4 years working on technology-powered products as either a product manager, product designer, engineer, or user researcher
- Demonstrated ability to figure out solutions to hard problems with many constraints, using sound judgment to assess risks, and to lay out your argument in a well-structured, data-informed, written narrative
- Proven ability to engage with engineers, designers, and company leaders in a constructive and collaborative relationship
