South Dakota State University (SDSU) is currently seeking a Senior Microbiologist to join our team! This position will support our Serology lab with complex serological testing. The South Dakota Animal Disease Research & Diagnostic Laboratory is a full service, AAVLD accredited diagnostic laboratory that conducts approximately 500,000 veterinary diagnostic tests a year.
Job Responsibilities: The primary purpose of this position is to perform, analyze and monitor diagnostic serology testing for the detection of antibodies against various animal infectious disease agents; coordinate quality assurance activities; and assist with the development, validation and implementation of new diagnostic assays.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Strong theoretical understanding of microbiology, virology, immunology, and molecular biology.
- Food animal diagnostic serology experience highly desired.
- Quality control assurance measures.
Skill & Ability to:
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Problem-solve.
- Develop, write, and edit standard operating procedure (SOP) protocols.
- Develop and implement new or improved diagnostic assays.
- Work safely with laboratory chemicals, materials, and specimens.
- Practice strong attention to detail.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Prioritize work to meet competing deadlines.
Comments: Bachelor or master’s degree in microbiology/immunology or related area and related work preferred. South Dakota State University is a tobacco free environment.
