South Dakota State University (SDSU) is currently seeking a Senior Microbiologist to join our team! This position will support our Serology lab with complex serological testing. The South Dakota Animal Disease Research & Diagnostic Laboratory is a full service, AAVLD accredited diagnostic laboratory that conducts approximately 500,000 veterinary diagnostic tests a year.

Job Responsibilities: The primary purpose of this position is to perform, analyze and monitor diagnostic serology testing for the detection of antibodies against various animal infectious disease agents; coordinate quality assurance activities; and assist with the development, validation and implementation of new diagnostic assays.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Strong theoretical understanding of microbiology, virology, immunology, and molecular biology.
  • Food animal diagnostic serology experience highly desired.
  • Quality control assurance measures.

Skill & Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Problem-solve.
  • Develop, write, and edit standard operating procedure (SOP) protocols.
  • Develop and implement new or improved diagnostic assays.
  • Work safely with laboratory chemicals, materials, and specimens.
  • Practice strong attention to detail.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Prioritize work to meet competing deadlines.

Comments: Bachelor or master’s degree in microbiology/immunology or related area and related work preferred. South Dakota State University is a tobacco free environment.
