Position Overview
Kiewit Industrial & Water Engineering (KIWE) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Industrial Business Unit in the Mining, Minerals & Metals discipline. Become part of a global team of innovative and trusted professionals who provide process engineering input to the different sectors within a Consulting Engineering Environment.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing engineering services and/or field support. The role will require the engineer to develop solutions in all areas of the process plant across various systems, unit operations and process equipment. Specific tasks include the development and support of engineering deliverables; solutions to unique design challenges; and involvement in the execution and commissioning of these solutions.

Our rapidly growing Industrial Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines. This team is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.
Location
This position is based out of Lone Tree, CO and may require up to 25% travel on average based on project demands.
Responsibilities
• Provide design, coordination, and oversight of various mechanical systems typical for mineral processing plants, including, but not limited to, comminution, conveying systems, screening, solid/liquid separation, mixing/agitation, process pumping and piping systems, dust collection, general plant/facility water, compressed air, and gas systems.
• Manage the completion of all project design calculations and equipment specifications typical for all process equipment.
• Coordinate and communicate all aspects of the project’s mechanical design within multi-disciplinary teams.
• Provide oversight and coordination of projects, working with the assigned design managers and project managers, to meet project budgets and schedules for all mechanical discipline activities.
• Manage other design partners (both internal and external) including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task and review work progress and results.
• Perform detailed technical bid analyses for equipment.
• Generate and check design deliverables such as PDC, PFDs, P&IDs, process simulations, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
• Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI’s, providing creative design solutions, etc.
• Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
• Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, mass/energy balances, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement.
• Train, mentor, and advise peers and support staff on proper application of industry standards and best practices.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year university.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) required or the ability to obtain one within six months.
• 15+ years of experience in Mineral Processing or closely related industry.
• 10+ years’ experience performing engineering-related design or oversight of designs
• 5+ years of experience in management and/or leading engineering and design teams.
• Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Experience utilizing specialized software for modeling process systems.
• Experience in arid, cold climate, and high-altitude designs
• Ability to lead mechanical engineering tasks on a project, within the allocated budget and schedule, including mentoring and guidance of junior colleagues and professional interaction with other project disciplines

Base Compensation: $120,115 – $180,172
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
