Description

The Senior Manager of Membership and Special Events is responsible for overseeing and advancing the MASS MoCA membership program and ensuring the stewardship of MASS MoCA’s constituencies. As Senior Manager of Membership and Special Events, this position will oversee a Membership Coordinator and generate important operations revenue by maintaining strong member relations and maintaining and growing membership through outreach and events. This individual will utilize the Tessitura database to organize communications, process memberships, and analyze and identify trends to better serve members. This position will work in collaboration with colleagues across the institution to develop and execute innovative opportunities to engage members through events and programs and broaden the membership base. Membership as critical part of donor cultivation

This position will work with the Senior Manager of Advancement Operations to maintain a practice of timely and thoughtful acknowledgements of membership gifts to the institution, working in partnership with colleagues across the institution to develop and execute engaging stewardship plans for members and donors, providing research on capacity and involvement and communicating to Advancement team potential for greater participation. This position will contribute to creating an energetic and enthusiastic culture of philanthropy.

The position reports to the Director of Content and Communication and participates as an active member of a highly effective fundraising department, including foundation and corporate support, annual fund, and special events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, develop and build the membership program (4,500+ members) in coordination with the Director of Advancement, Director of Communications and Content, Director & Deputy Director, and Finance to ensure the program follows the Museum strategic plan
  • Develop and maintain annual budget for membership program
  • Oversee the budgeting, monthly reporting and developing and managing a feedback loop with members to inform programming.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement lively and engaging member activities with support from Special Events and Visitor Experience team – previews, behind the scenes, and other activities designed to encourage growth in membership
  • Work with Communications & Content team on membership marketing plan including seasonal membership drives, promotions, and special events
  • Write copy and execute member emails including preview invitations and monthly membership emails; provide content and review design for member promotional materials, and membership related events on the website
  • Oversee membership customer service process including the processing of memberships in Tessitura and acknowledgements
  • Manage monthly membership renewal communications
  • Provide monthly membership reports and dashboard information to Director of Advancement and Director of Communications & Content
  • Develop and manage member feedback system to inform programming, benefits and strategy
  • Add something specific about relationship between members and donors pipeline/cultivation
  • Manage membership program (4,500+ members)

  • Serve as a key point of contact for member inquiries
  • Communicate membership information in person or via electronic, telephone, mail, or written correspondence to members and prospective members
  • Develop content for communications with MASS MoCA members
  • Maintain database and work with box office and other development staff to ensure member information is complete, correct, and up to date
  • Strategize new ways to grow revenue
  • Develop and manage member events
  • Collaborate with other departments to create strategies for developing donor relations/stewardship standards across the institution
  • Ensure that the gift acknowledgement processes remain relevant and are fulfilled in a timely manner
  • Address donor questions and concerns related to gift acknowledgments
  • Assist with other museum events as needed

  • An effective collaborator who is good at working with others to get projects done

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience required.
  • At least 5 years of fundraising and/or membership experience is required; experience with the non-profit sector is preferred.
  • This position requires occasional work on weekends and evenings.

Work Conditions

  • The position may require extended hours, work on weekends, holidays and for festivals and events.
  • The work week is Monday – Friday
  • Must be able to wear PPE as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • For employment at MASS MoCA, candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination will be required for employment.

Minimum starting salary is $65K annually.
