Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Issues Management, is a strategic communications professional focused on promoting and protecting the Company’s reputation through issues management. The Senior Manager will report to the Director, Issues Management, and support work with the media relations, government affairs, and law departments; sectors and regions; external advisors and other communication leaders across Johnson & Johnson pertaining to issues. The Senior Manager will assist in developing plans and executing programs to ensure the Company’s positions are clearly understood by the media and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive Johnson & Johnson’s reputation of excellence, innovation & ingenuity globally.
  • Support J&J’s positioning and messaging to enhance and defend the reputation.
  • Participate on a team of issues management experts to execute a consistent, global approach to issues management.
  • Partner closely with the Director, Issues Management, and sector communicators to support their business goals and serve patient needs.
  • Ability to work with consultants as appropriate to support strategy development, statement development and media outreach.
  • Build trusted relationships and collaborate across diverse, multi-functional teams to successfully drive objectives.
  • Able to define the most strategic issues management analytics and optimal reporting methods for tracking issues and interpreting results to better inform strategies.
  • Maintain rich understanding of industry best practices and emerging trends.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Communications; Marketing, Journalism, or Public Relations

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • A minimum of 8+ years of professional experience working in a communications or media relations role is required.
  • Proven record of excellence in counseling and advising senior management and business leaders on complex business issues required.
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate, prioritize and focus the organization on the most critical issues/projects to consistently deliver results.
  • An independent, self-directed, and strategic thinker with strong analytical skills who is both collaborative, decisive and who demonstrates sound judgment and ability to hold sensitive information in confidence.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to project and inspire confidence.
  • Exhibits leadership, executive presence or adversarial strength as required by the circumstances.
  • Strong ability to develop appropriate messaging and statements related to our litigations in order to ensure fair and accurate representations of our views in the media’s coverage.
  • Passion for media and consuming news, in all forms, through a variety of channels.
  • Team player who thrives in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
  • Experience responding to crisis within a heavily matrixed organization

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $113,000 to $195,500.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
