Marketing Analytics team helps drive business strategy by synthesizing data and performance metrics into actionable insights across product categories, customer segments, marketing channels and sales channels. The team sits within Customer Insights & Analytics (CIA) team, a customer-focused, action-biased, data-driven team chartered with driving business by understanding customer behavior using advanced analytics. Marketing Analytics is a high-performance team that is scaling up to help accelerate Walmart’s aggressive growth both for online eCommerce and offline brick & mortar Stores. This is a high-impact and high-visibility role within the organization with expectations to deliver immediate results. The complexity of this role requires one to develop actionable insights from copious amounts of competitive, conversion, and behavioral data from proprietary and third-party data.

What you will do:

As the Senior Manager I, Category Marketing Analytics, you are responsible for providing business insights to drive measurable performance of Marketing within all of Walmart’s product categories. You will help develop a holistic understanding of how product categories, marketing channels and other business levers work together to grow customer engagement, drive incremental sales, and contribute to longer term strategic objectives. You will partner closely with Marketing Analytics’ Data science, Measurement and Experimentation teams on measurement & optimization methods and on developing and utilizing existing models and tools to establish interdependencies between product categories, and will collaborate with key parts of Marketing (Performance Marketing, Category Marketing, Brand Marketing, Data Engineering) to develop relevant and timely insights which inform marketing strategy and enable data-driven decision making. Given the size and scale of the Marketing at Walmart investment this position will be highly visible and have an opportunity to make a significant impact across the entire organization.

You will make an impact by:

  • Providing consulting knowledge and acting as a subject matter expert to senior functional leadership (e.g., SVPs & EVPs) to understand overall goals/functional objectives, decipher key business challenges, identify tactics to anticipate and mitigate business challenges/issues and develop potential success criteria while using advanced analytics, expert story telling skills with data and excellent slide building skills.
  • Supporting Walmart Category Marketing team by delivering empirically based insights into marketing’s contribution to product category performance and growth goals.
  • Building customer views to understand the impact of Marketing on customers across all stages of the buying lifecycle including New User Acquisition, Engagement/Retention, and Reactivation.
  • Utilizing and integrating DSI (Down-Stream Impact) measurement to quantify the longer-term impact of key HVAs (High Value Action) relating to product category trial and cross shopping behavior to help prioritize performance marketing budget.
  • Being subject matter expert on advanced marketing measurement methods (Marketing Mix Models, Multi-Touch Attribution) as central decision support tools for Marketing teams.
  • Using Walmart’s vast 1st Party and 3rd Party data to analyze customer behavior, build compelling customer segments and activate audience targets to drive business performance across channels.
  • Consulting with senior leadership/ business partners to understand overall goals/functional objectives, decipher key business challenges, identify tactics to anticipate and mitigate business challenges/issues and develop potential success criteria.
  • Building & maintaining strong working relationships across departments or teams based on trust and mutual respect. Communicating with senior stakeholders to balance stakeholder and analytics perspectives.
  • Communicating technical material clearly to a range of audiences and building narratives that provides insight into the factors impacting business performance.
  • Focusing efforts on items that have maximum impact to the business.
  • Leading and managing a team of onshore and offshore analysts, providing guidance and support, and ensuring that junior analysts have the resources they need to be successful.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics of related filed and 4 years’ experience in data analytics or related field
  • Expert at SQL and Excel – ability to manipulate large quantities of data to drive business decisions is a must.
  • 2+ years of experience leading cross functional teams and influencing Product, Finance, Business Operations and Engineering.
  • Strong organizational skills, a strong sense of ownership and accountability, and the ability to lead projects, communicate effectively, and be a self-starter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in Marketing Analytics, Digital Analytics, or eCommerce Analytics with experience working with marketers to maximize marketing contribution to business performance goals.
  • 5+ years of experience leading cross functional teams and influencing partner teams.
  • MBA or Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of digital analytics OR digital marketing analytics experience in a retail and/or eCommerce environment.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and AI techniques to build and implement models that optimize marketing performance.
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts and Test/Control methodologies (A/B and multivariate testing).
  • Experience leveraging big data technologies (Hive/Hadoop) and modern data visualization tools (Tableau, ThoughtSpot, Looker) to blend data from multiple sources to help answer multi-dimensional business questions.
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and quantitative skills and ability to synthesize findings into tangible actions that help drive business outcomes.
  • A self-starter with a sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Seasoned manager with strong EQ, able to guide and motivate junior team-members to delivery exceptional work.
  • Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and lead complex projects with a high degree of ambiguity.
  • Polished communication skills with ability to clearly convey complex data and information across a broad landscape of clientele.
  • Category marketing analytics experience in a retail and/or eCommerce environment.
  • Experience using R and/or Python to manipulate data, build models and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Experience using an enterprise-level digital analytics platforms (e.g. Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, etc.).
  • Experience and a working understanding of different marketing attribution methodologies (rule-based attribution, multi-touch attribution, Media Mix Models).
  • Experience building and applying customer segmentation, cohort models and personas to actionable results.
  • You have a passion for working in a fast-paced agile environment.

The annual salary range for this position is $128,000.00-$192,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.

Additional compensation for certain positions may also include:
