Overview
The Senior Irrigation Technician performs journey level work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of irrigation sprinkler systems on City property to ensure effective watering of golf courses, park areas, and playing fields.
Essential Functions
- Manage, design, permit, and supervise installations; inspect, diagnose, repair, repair, and maintain drinking fountains and irrigation system within Park and Recreation properties; provides a high level of maintenance for turf and landscaping areas within the City.
- Loads and unloads tools, irrigation materials, and equipment onto trucks to ensure necessary tools are available for repairs to be made.
- Performs general technical and preventive maintenance on sprinkler systems such as checking oils, cleaning parts, and making adjustments to ensure system is maintained in proper operating condition.
- Makes diagnoses of problems when possible or refers to journey level irrigation worker to provide effective repair of sprinkler systems.
- Performs a variety of activities such as digging trenches, driving tractor to pull water tank, using chain saws and weed eaters to assist with irrigation system maintenance.
- Provides quality customer service and competent public interaction.
- Performs any and all other work as required or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of basic principles and practices of installing and maintaining irrigation systems.
- Ability to perform manual labor including use of hand tools such as shovels and pipe wrenches.
- Maintaining and operating hand and power tools.
- Knowledge and understanding of safety procedures.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to perform labor for extended periods of time.
- Establishing and maintaining strong relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
3 years installing irrigation or working with landscaping.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid Texas Driver’s License
Valid Texas Installer License or Valid Texas Irrigator’s License
(Issued by the Texas Commission Environmental Quality-TCEQ)
Education
High School Diploma, GED
Supplemental Information
Other Requirements
- Availability to work twenty-four (24) hour emergency call.
- Subject to inclement weather.
- Ability to read blueprints and independently complete accurate materials takeoffs.
- Ability to operate equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, bobcats and a 521 locator.
- Applicants qualifying with Journeyman Plumber’s license must obtain a Texas Irrigator’s License within probationary period of six (6) months.
