Job Responsibilities
The Senior Director assists the Deputy Commissioner’s office with oversight of programmatic and operational programs in the Department of Public Health. The Senior Director participates with the Executive Leadership team on policy development and provides sound advice and recommendations to the Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner on critical decisions. The Senior Director assists with oversight of the Department’s enterprise level operations that support the agencies public health programmatic activities. This position reports to the Deputy Commissioner.
- Provides management to staff and leadership that aligns with the department’s overall strategic vision.
- Demonstrates competency in developing goals and objectives to include working with leaders in setting divisional goals and objectives that are consistent with the department’s mission and strategic plan.
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with District leadership to ensure alignment among the department’s 18 public health districts.
- Sets challenging and realistic goals for growth, performance, and sustainability.
- Creates effective measurement tools to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of internal and external processes.
- Provides accurate and timely reports outlining the operational condition of the department.
- Spearheads the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.
- Works with other department ELT on improving internal processes and procedures.
- Works closely with senior management team to create, implement and roll out plans for operational processes, internal infrastructures, reporting systems and departmental policies.
- Forges strategic partnerships and relationships with stakeholders, vendors, and all other professional business relationships.
- Convenes multiple stakeholders and helps drive decisions.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field AND Five years experience managing professional level staff
OR
Nine years of experience AND Five years of management experience at the level equivalent to area of assignment
OR
Five years of experience at the lower level (GSM012).
Note: A combination of education and experience at agency discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5-10 years of executive level operational experience
- Exceptional executive presence, business acumen and presentation skills.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
- Ability to strategize and solve problems.
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Experience managing programs in a local health department or public health district
This is a GRANT FUNDED position and subject to available grant funds.
