Senior digital editor

Job Summary:

The Senior Digital Editor is responsible for prioritizing and serving WPR’s digital audiences. This is a position for someone with a passion for building digital audiences across a variety of platforms, who excels at working in coalition with a wide range of stakeholders. The editor works closely with the Director of Digital Media to evolve, communicate and execute on WPR’s digital strategy. Their work includes managing projects and workflows across WPR departments and serving as a regular digital content editor and producer. They will supervise an engagement editor and digital editor. This position reports to the Senior Content Director.

WPR’s on-air and digital services each reach more than 400,000 people across Wisconsin every month. Serving and reflecting the state’s diverse communities is essential to our work. Responsibilities:

Reviews, edits, produces, and troubleshoots content for websites, blogs, and online presence across different platforms. Assists with overall planning for website maintenance, expansion, and reorganization, keeps current on digital trends, and engages in forward thinking about upcoming content needs.

  • 35% Reviews, edits, produces, and troubleshoots content for website and online presence
  • 10% Defines content requirements, gathers website update content from internal and external partners, and performs content updates
  • 20% Determines strategy for website content
  • 5% Acts as a training and trouble-shooting resource for staff
  • 5% Develops blog and social content based on local programming, events, and educational services
  • 5% Pitches creative online projects which support the unit in its mission and goals and engage the audience
  • 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent employees

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Significant experience producing and/or editing content in a fast-paced, deadline-driven media environment
– Demonstrated experience conceiving, launching and managing digital content products
– Excellent communication skills including experience writing and editing online news or feature content
– Proven ability to work in both independent and collaborative settings

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Experience in a daily media environment
– Previous supervisory experience
– Experience working in public media

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Minimum $70,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information:

We expect to pay in the lower-to-mid $70,000’s for this role. Actual salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
