Senior C/C++ Software Engineer


Peraton is searching for a talented Senior C/C++ Software Engineer to become part of Peraton’s Citizens Security & Public Services, and Government Services team. This position will be on-site in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

What you’ll do:

The Senior C/C++ Software Engineer will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:

  • Conducts research in design, development, testing and utilization of electronic data processing software. Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.
  • Analyzes user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints. Confers with systems analysts, engineers, programmers and others to design system and to obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces.
  • Designs, develops and modifies software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design.
  • Coordinates software system installations and monitors equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering, or a related field and 8 to 10 years’ experience with systems level programming experience with C/C++
  • Must be a US Citizen; must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance and/or SCI clearance, (may require a polygraph)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills and experience with agile methodologies like Scrum or Kanban
  • Excellent working knowledge of Git and related branching models
  • Extensive experience with Linux (bonus points for kernel knowledge), particularly RHEL and Ubuntu
  • Track record of continuous improvement and strong leadership skills to see it implemented
  • Interest in other languages like Rust and Go
  • Experience using GPUs to implement DSP algorithms
  • Experience working with embedded systems
  • Experience with automation and CI/CD, particularly Ansible and Gitlab CI
  • Experience writing unit tests that integrate into the CI pipeline
  • Ability to work effectively on both small and large development teams (two-to-eight members)
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • Motivated by working with a highly successful, dynamic project team delivering systems that impact our National Security
  • Active DOE Q clearance
  • Active SCI clearance

Target Salary Range

$86,000 – $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
