Senior Assistant Director for Financial Aid – Sara Schenirer Programs

Job Description:

The Senior Assistant Director, reporting to the Senior Director for Financial Aid, will evaluate and award financial aid to new and continuing students at the College of Mount Saint Vincent with a focus on student who are enrolling and enrolled in Sara Schenirer programs in all locations, in accordance with federal, state and college regulations, and financial aid policies and operating guidelines. This is a remote position, with work week schedule defined by the Sara Schenirer academic and holiday calendar; occasional attendance on campus may be required at the discretion of the Senior Director for Financial Aid.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess student eligibility for federal, state and potentially institutional aid based on established guidelines for each program, and applicable federal and state regulations and ensure timely processing of financial aid paperwork in support of verification, packaging and enrollment deadlines, and federal and state requirements.
  • Prepare financial aid award packages for new students in each program in accordance with program-specific awarding guidelines, applicable regulations, and in adherence with established timelines.
  • Coordinate financial aid award information communications with prospective students via Banner, Slate and print mail in support of meeting enrollment targets and established deadlines. Assist with the development and coordination of additional communication and outreach activities as needed.
  • Counsel students and families regarding financial aid and payment options and responsibilities through individual meetings as well as group presentations. Travel as needed to perform these responsibilities at offsite locations.
  • Perform scheduled imports and exports of federal and state data files as directed.
  • Prepare standard and customized reports for external and internal constituencies as assigned by the Senior Director for Financial Aid using Banner and Argos Reports and Excel. Assist with the development and coordination of routine activities including policies and procedures, support materials, forms, reconciliations and reporting.
  • Conduct Professional Judgement/Special Circumstance reviews for all students to ensure federal eligibility.
  • Work closely with other offices to encourage student enrollment, enhance retention and resolve financial aid award issues.
  • Ability to maintain a schedule of work throughout the year to meet the needs and timetable of the Sara Schenirer partner program constituents. Evening work will be required one to two days a week, especially during certain parts of the academic year.
  • Maintain and update approved Financial Aid Calendar for each Sara Schenirer program. Collaborate with Sara Schenirer staff to ensure adherence to financial aid calendar, enrollment timelines and institutional aid policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director for Financial Aid.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three to five years’ experience directly related to the duties listed above.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial aid policies, procedures and eligibility requirements.
  • Banner, Argos, ED Connect, COD, NSLDS, Microsoft Office, FileZilla experience preferred.
  • Ability to maintain a calendar and schedule of work to meet the needs and timetable of Sara Schenirer partner program constituents, in accordance with the Sara Schenirer academic and holiday calendar.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, faculty and staff within the College and Sara Schenirer.
  • A positive, proactive attitude in a fast-paced work environment is essential. Experience providing excellent customer service and have the ability to use positive language in challenging situations.
