The Los Angeles Dodgers are seeking to hire a Senior Applied Research Scientist to be based out of our Spring Training Complex in Glendale, Arizona. The role lies within the larger Performance Science team, which is tasked with leveraging physics and motion science to uncover ways to aid in the development of athletes. The ideal candidate will be a highly-motivated, self-starter with 4+ years of research experience and a degree in biomechanics, engineering, or a related science discipline. The candidate must also exhibit a highly professional demeanor, advanced problem solving, communication and organization skills with an ability to take the lead on projects. The role works closely with coaches, players, and front office personnel on a day-to-day basis. Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Collecting, processing, and analyzing biomechanics and other tracking data from a laboratory and/or on-field setting
- Defining, leading, and presenting research projects focused on player performance and biomechanics through advanced quantitative analyses
- Creating data visualization tools / reports; identifying and troubleshooting data quality issues; and communicating results to front office, coaching staff, player development, scouting, and medical/performance staff as well as players
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support organizational research & development efforts
- Performing complex ad hoc data analyses to support Baseball Operations
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Basic Requirements/Qualifications:
- M.S. / M.Eng., or Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, biomechanics, physics, kinesiology, or a related STEM field
- 4+ years of research experience (previous work with athletes a plus)
- Proficient with biomechanics data collection and analysis tools (motion capture systems, force plates, IMUs, pressure sensors, Visual 3D / OpenSim)
- Advanced computer programming and database experience (preferably Python, SQL; MATLAB familiarity a plus)
- Knowledge of recent advances within the public baseball research and tech communities
- Advanced communication (written & verbal) skills with ability to become a trusted advisor
- Desire to work in a collaborative team environment
