Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Salesforce Marketing Cloud Administrator will be responsible for the ongoing configuration, support, maintenance, administration and security of Boise State’s Salesforce Marketing Cloud environment. The position will work closely with functional leaders, organizational units, and subject matter experts to implement new business processes that use Salesforce Marketing Cloud. The position will also have secondary responsibility for the ongoing configuration, support, maintenance, administration, and security of Boise State’s Salesforce Education Cloud org for Student Success and other Salesforce provided services.

This position may have the opportunity to work remotely where all work is performed from an alternative work location either within or outside the state of Idaho.

Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.
Essential Functions:
60% of the time the Salesforce Marketing Cloud Administrator must:
• Implement Salesforce Marketing Cloud to improve processes and productivity.
• Own all technical Salesforce Marketing Cloud duties and responsibilities.
• Serve as the primary Salesforce Marketing Cloud Administrator for an environment with approximately serving 26,000 students and 3,500 employees.
• In collaboration with the Salesforce Administrator, create and maintain Marketing Cloud Automations, Data Extensions, and connector data transfer processes.
• In collaboration with the Salesforce Administrator, perform administration functions such as user management, data management, etc.
• Aggressively grow our capacity to provide more personalized/automated constituent experiences across digital and offline channels and all constituent personas (faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, parents, etc).
• Provide expertise in marketing automation processes and campaign management.
• Manage email deliverability, database hygiene, subscription management and compliance with global opt-in laws and regulations.
• Develop responsive, best-in-class email templates that conform to usability and accessibility requirements as described in Boise State policy.
• Build Marketing Cloud Journeys following design and process guidance from stakeholders and subject matter experts.
• Oversee new Marketing Cloud data and advise on data use for targeting, configuration strategy and reporting.
• Develop and implement digital strategies and tactics for email, mobile, and web including nurturing programs, campaign management, prospect lifecycle integration with Salesforce, and reporting on lead flow/progress.
• Structure and implement marketing tests to drive optimization (e.g., test creative, copy, audience segments, triggers, etc.).
• Analyze data from analytics and assist in implementation improvements to Marketing Cloud performance and deliverability.
• Communicate and manage all aspects of release management for Marketing Cloud and related AppExchange applications, including cadence, governance, change management, sandbox refreshes, testing, etc.
• Track, maintain, monitor and analyze broader campaign performance data including: Owned (web, email, social), Earned (PR & Influencer) and Paid marketing efforts.
• Implement and optimize the use of the Salesforce Marketing Cloud User Preference Center.
• Develop and implement and advanced Salesforce Marketing Cloud configurations.
• Collaborate with Salesforce, support vendors and internal IT staff to troubleshoot and apply new features, upgrades, and patches.
• Identify project risks and present alternatives to alleviate or resolve issues.
• Monitor testing and acquire sign-off before migrating to production.
• Maintain current knowledge of Salesforce developments and enhancements.
• Maximize efficiency and capitalize on the full features and benefits of Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
35% of the time the Salesforce Marketing Cloud Administrator must:
• Serve as a secondary Salesforce Administrator.
• Complete regular internal system audits.
• Identify areas of improvement and make actionable recommendations to increase operational efficiency and user adoption.
• Develop and maintain documentation of current processes and future enhancements.
• Collaborate with Salesforce, support vendors and internal technical staff to troubleshoot
and apply new features, upgrades and patches.
• Maximize efficiency and capitalize on the full features and benefits of Salesforce.
• Collaborate with OIT leadership and staff to establish release management processes and activities that complement existing release management activities for existing systems, e.g. PeopleSoft, Oracle Financials Cloud, etc.
• Direct the activities of one or more student employees.
5% of the time the Salesforce Marketing Cloud Administrator will preform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Strong understanding of Salesforce Marketing Cloud functionality and best practices.
• Knowledge of email marketing best practices and how they are applied in a higher education institution.
• A documented history of successfully administering large and complex Salesforce Marketing Cloud environments.
• Demonstrated ability to understand complex requirements and implement Salesforce and Salesforce Marketing Cloud centric solutions.
• Ability to analyze alternative Salesforce Marketing Cloud solutions and determine the best option for addressing short-term needs while minimizing long-term overhead and maintenance.
• Ability to assess the impact of new requirements on upstream and downstream
Salesforce applications, systems and processes.
• Ability to map data integrations from other systems to the most relevant Salesforce
objects and fields in Education Cloud.
• Ability to develop and utilize models for efficiently and effectively managing user and
API access via profiles, permission sets, permission set groups, enterprise wide defaults,
and sharing.
• Ability to automate complex, routine tasks.
• A track record of adhering to a “clicks over code” methodology.
• Ability to manage and optimize large data sets.
• Ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile
conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level
information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the true
underlying needs.
• Excellent interpersonal and cross-discipline collaboration skills with demonstrated
strength in verbal and written communications.
• Ability to meet deadlines, handle and prioritize simultaneous requests, and manage
laterally and upwards.
• Experience working with implementation partners.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment that
includes Business Analysts, Project Managers, Salesforce Administrators, Architects, and
stakeholders.
• Previous experience working in a SCRUM or agile environment.
• Ability to be a Salesforce Marketing Cloud ambassador to other departments and potential adopters.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years experience as a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Administrator.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Marketing Cloud Administrator Certification Exam.
• At least 2 years of experience as a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Administrator.
• Service Cloud, Education Cloud, and/or Developer certifications.
• Experience with higher education organizations and processes.
