Brightpoint Community College seeks to hire a Safety and Health Manager

Responsibilities includes:•

  • Responsible for development and implementation of college’s safety and health (S&H) program
  • Conducts job hazard assessments and develops policy/procedures to mitigate risk
  • Identifies required safety training and coordinates delivery
  • Performs quality assurance of college S&H programs
  • Oversees emergency/crisis management, updates the crisis plan, and oversees emergency preparedness procedures, plans, and training for the campus per state and federal regulations
  • Assists with the MS4 program
  • Ensures OSHA / VOSH college-wide compliance
  • Responsible for compliance with state and federal regulations impacting college safety operations, including but not limited to the Clery Act, Title IX, VaWA, and the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act
  • Serves as part of the Incident Command structure during emergency situations and training drills
  • Serves as essential personnel

Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA’s/Required Qualifications
Seeking the following requirements:

  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with health and safety principles, practices, and regulations (i.e. OSHA / VOSH regulations, building safety, ADA compliance, utility usage/management, state/federal regulations as related to safety/security, fire codes, campus safety, and environmental health and safety)
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with industrial hygiene and general industry safety standards
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with health and safety hazard prevention techniques, standards, and systems
  • Demonstrated experience performing occupational health and safety risk assessments
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret applicable safety laws/regulations and develop appropriate safety policies/procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, plan, and mange health and safety programs/systems
  • Demonstrated ability and experience training and educating staff on safety policy/procedures
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to implement a comprehensive safety/security and emergency response plan
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, outside vendors and department heads
  • Ability to keep accurate records and prepare reports
  • Must have ability to analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and function within a modern office setting
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations at all college locations 24/7
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal laws and regulations, particularly Clery Act, Title IX regulations, OSHA / VOSH , EPA / DEQ regulations
  • Appreciation for the educational and student development aspects of a campus public safety operation
  • Exceptional customer service, interpersonal, and leadership skills in dealing with direct reports, students, faculty, staff and the general public

Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in occupational health or job related field.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.
