Roofer

General Description
Performs responsible, skilled work in the inspection, maintenance and repair of roofs, skylights, gutters and other sheet metal structures. Receives daily work orders from team leader or supervisor and requires coordination with others as necessary.

**Minimum and maximum salary scale listed; contracted salary depends on experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Inspects roofs regularly for leaks and damage.
  • Locates and identifies problems.
  • Performs emergency repairs to roofs and skylights.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs skylights, gutters, downspouts and other sheetmetal structures; installs metal flashing
  • Works with other maintenance workers, school officials and staff to resolve maintenance problems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of the practices and methods of conventional built-up and single-ply roof construction, repair and maintenance including a wide variety of roof types and roofing materials, such as shingle, tin, asbestos, slate and tile and of building codes and construction techniques. Demonstrated skill in roof inspection, maintenance and repair. Demonstrated ability to work safely and efficiently with various types of equipment, machinery and tools; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to work independently and to provide work guidance as necessary. Basic computer and keyboarding skills.

Requirements
Any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform this job. Valid VA Driver’s License. This position requires the incumbent to drive. In accordance with Policy 5431, an employee who occupies the position and is assigned a district-owned or leased motor vehicle will be subject to annual driving checks and must maintain acceptable records pursuant to the standards set forth in the policy.
