Job Description
New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (New College) is seeking a Research Advancement Manager (RAM). Under administrative direction of the Associate Dean, performs work of considerable difficulty in working with department faculty to develop and submit funding proposals to various federal and state agencies, foundations and industrial firms.
The primary role of the Research Advancement Manager is to: Manage the pre-award submissions and some post- award functions. Provide direct support to research investigators in the area of proposal preparation. The Research Advancement Manager serves as the liaison between the New College faculty and the Office of Research and ASU’s Knowledge Enterprise (KE) and is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable agency standards, regulations and requirements.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
- Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Seven years experience in any combination of the following areas: procurement (federal, state, or industrial), proposal submissions, contract negotiation, grant and contract administration and financial administration; which includes two years of supervisory experience,OR Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.

Essential Duties
- Serves as an administrative resource to New College research investigators- provides assistance, guidance and counsel during development, pre- submission administrative review, management, authorization and transmittal of grant and contract.
- Assists in all areas of award management, which may include but are not limited to: guidance and assistance in preparing administrative post award management including At-Risks, Pre-Award Costs, Re-budgets, No Cost Extensions, etc.
- Assists with post submission action items requested by the sponsor such as Just In Time requests, revised budgets, scope of work, additional certifications, etc.
- Performs funding searches to help identify opportunities and support departmental research goals
- Reviews funding announcements and provides guidance on eligibility and sponsor requirements Assists in drafting budget justifications in conjunction with PI/Unit
- Advises Project Directors on financial management issues, and when appropriate resolves complex problems with Project Directors, internal offices, and sponsors
- Consults with faculty to provide technical advice in the area of proposal presentation and dissemination of information that can be used in the grant proposal revision process
- Provides support to faculty in the development, preparation and submission of sponsored projects proposals to various funding agencies
- Works with research advancement staff to develops timelines, budgets, and grant proposals
- Reviews proposals against guidelines before sending to the ASU’s Knowledge Enterprise
- Assists New College research investigators with renewals and periodic reports for grant agencies
- Works in conjunction with KE research investigator to ensure timely and accurate post-award accounting of grants and contracts; reviews
reconciliation of accounts for compliance of charges in accordance with sponsoring agency/contract conditions and requirements - Assists in the development of proposals with emphasis on sponsor/grant identification: interprets sponsoring agency guidelines to ensure compliance with guidelines and requirements
- Maintains all applicable project records and files; decides proper handling of financial transactions; approves transactions within designated limits
- Supervises day-to-day activities of research advancement staff
- Navigates highly complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans
- Facilitates workshops and provides technical assistance in the area of grant writing and development to ensure understanding of competitive grant requirements, application process and compliance with award requirements
- Understands user needs, requirements and requests to identify priorities; manages and resolves urgent and/or conflicting requests
- Prepares complex analysis of trends and metrics to assist in unit decisions
- Serves as a consultant to management on policies, plans, and objectives
- Interacts with senior internal and external personnel on significant technical matters
- Performs other job duties as assigned
