Regional Operations Manager – Edge Site Operations

Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a CO+I Regional Operations Manager in Edge Site Operations, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft’s online services including Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Bing search platforms.

Edge Site Operations is the organization responsible for deploying and maintaining collocated facilities globally that provide low latency and reliable connectivity for Microsoft Cloud Services to our customers. The Regional Operations Manager will oversee the team responsible for managing Edge sites from deployment throughout the entire datacenter lifecycle.

Responsibilities:
As the Regional Operations Manager, your responsibilities include:

  • Drive the delivery of world-class support services and manage operations across the US, Canada, and Latin America
  • Leadership, management, coaching, and development of Microsoft full time employees across datacenters in your region
  • Accountable for the ongoing IT and Critical Environment (CE) support for all service lines ensuring the on-time and defect-free delivery of customer capacity within our SLA commitments
  • Planning and delivery of all supporting physical infrastructure, logistics, and the resources required to meet anticipated growth
  • Actively participate in incident management procedures relating to major incidents that impact Microsoft cloud services in your region. This will include leading incident management calls with customers and leadership, the timely resolution of incidents, post-incident reviews, and the implementation of improvement plans
  • Financial management of region portfolio including the development of detailed budgets, forecasts, and management of operational and capital spend
  • Management and oversight of all vendor/partner contracts and relationships including leased-facility landlords and IT service providers, and partner support teams
  • Collaborate with global and regional management teams and contribute to improvement programs
  • Work across your partner teams, who support contracting, deployment signaling, finance, engineering, security, design and build, and compliance to ensure seamless site operation with the highest standards of safety, security, and ecological responsibility

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND 5+ years experience of mission-critical service management (e.g., providing IT services, manufacturing, warehouse, retail, military, or managing physical operations in an IT and/or critical environment infrastructure)
  • 3+ years experience in leading a diverse, technical team

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience managing large vendor multi-year contracts and operating entities
  • Mission-critical operations experience in one or more of the following industries: Datacenters, Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, Military, or related
  • Experience working in international business
  • BS/BA degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Telecommunications, or related field
  • Knowledge of physical IT infrastructures (e.g. Servers, Networking, Capacity, DC Rack/Enclosures, structured cabling, etc.)
  • Knowledge of critical environment concepts and infrastructure (e.g. Electrical Distribution, Mechanical Cooling Systems, etc.)
  • Understanding of financial management, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Awareness of IT Service Operations fundamentals and principles. (ITIL, MOF, OLA/SLA, CSI, etc.)
  • Project or program management experience and certification(s) (e.g. Six Sigma, Kaizen, PMI, etc.)

Data Center Operations Management M5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $125,400 – $224,500 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $166,000 – $249,000 per year.
