Position Summary
Plan, direct, manage and oversee the activities and operations of the Recreation Division of the Parks & Recreation Department; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, departments and outside agencies; and provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to higher level supervisory or management staff.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in recreation administration or related field, and;

Seven (7) years of managerial Parks and Recreation program administration experience to include;

Four (4) years direct supervisory experience.

Program administration and development in the areas of Parks and Recreation Program Management, Parks and Recreation Community Volunteers Programming, and Recreation Facility Programming preferred. Certification and/or membership in the New Mexico Recreation and Parks Association preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Preferred Knowledge

  • Recreation program operations, services and activities of public athletic facilities
  • Principles and practices of program development and administration
  • Principles and practices of municipal budget preparation and administration
  • Modern office methods and equipment including computers
  • Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation
  • Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations

  • Plan, organize, direct and coordinate the work of lower level staff

  • Develop and implement volunteer programs

  • Develop and administer program goals, objectives and procedures
  • Prepare clear and concise administrative and financial reports
  • Prepare and administer large and complex budgets
  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals
  • Research, analyze and evaluate new service delivery methods and techniques
  • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
