About the Recreation Division:
The Recreation Division eliminates barriers through responsive, exceptional recreation services. We operate over 50 recreation facilities (community centers, teen centers, pools, school-based learning centers, environmental learning centers, and boating and sailing centers) and provide opportunities for people to play, learn, and lead healthy, active lives. Our programs and events include fitness and athletics, licensed childcare and preschool, swimming and boating, youth development and job preparation, academic enrichment, and more — including programs designed for older adults and people with disabilities, as well as grant and partnership programs designed and implemented with immigrant and refugee communities. With nearly 300 regular employees and a budget of nearly $40 million annually, Recreation is a major operation with significant impact on the communities we serve.About the Position:
This position plans and implements programming for adults 50+ within the Lifelong Recreation team supported through the Recreation Division Matrix & Partnership unit. Conducts all programming administrative functions to meet Lifelong Recreation program goals and outcomes. Provides programmatic content expertise in serving the diverse needs of people age 50+. Reports to the Lifelong Recreation team Coordinator but has overall responsibility, as assigned, for program goals and outcomes. May supervise subordinate staff.
Job Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, implement specific recreational events, activities, classes, and trips for people age 50+.
- Perform a variety of administrative duties. The work requires working knowledge of the principles and practices of planning, organizing recreational activities to meet the specific needs of older adults.
- Prepares budget recommendations for program area; and monitors and reports budget expenditures.
- Tracks, monitors, and reports program data to inform goals and outcomes.
- Maintains records and prepares reports on program activities, invoices, attendance forms, work orders and registration.
- Arranges for the use of other facilities for recreation programs or special events.
- Communicate, verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner; and to make presentations and speak before groups to conduct outreach and engagement, especially of under-represented communities.
- Represents SPR in working with individuals, groups, staff, and community agencies to assess types of recreational program needs and to coordinate program implementation.
- Reviews and prepares recommendations regarding senior adult recreation programs.
- Recommends new recreation programs; and coordinates the implementation of approved programs.
- Disseminates program information to staff, individuals, groups, and the general public; and meets with neighborhood and community groups to plan for special events and identify recreation program needs.
- Driving department vans for participant field trips.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires one year experience coordinating recreation programs and a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Recreation Administration, Physical Education or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

The ability to communicate at all levels tactfully and effectively will also contribute to your success.
Specifically, you will be prepared to take on this role if you have:

- Recreation, Leisure Services
- Coordinating recreation programs, facilities, budgets, and related resources
- Working with first-generation and racially/ethnically diverse populations
- Working with partners, community, organizations, and advocacy groups

Additional Information
Work Environment
- Required to work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Potential exposure to hostile program participants.
- Requires long periods of standing or walking.
- Required to lift up to 50 pounds.
License, Certification and Other Requirements
- Current Washington State driver’s license.
- First Aid and CPR Certificate within six months of hire.
- May be required to work evenings and weekends.
The full salary range for this position is $31.86 – $37.10 per hour.
