Recreation Leader Outdoor Activation and Mobile Recreation

Position Description

Outdoor Activation and Mobile Recreation (OAMR): Recreation Leaders assigned to our City-wide OAMR team plan and implement food, fitness, and mobile recreation programming in partnership with community groups to identify and support the fitness, nutrition and youth career exploration wants and needs of their communities. Built on trust, community, engagement, and the want to strengthen the health of their population, OAMR uses interactive, educational, and fun activities to promote health and wellbeing. These are positions working up to 40 hours per week in socially and economically underserved communities. The work schedule includes evenings and weekends and works outdoors in all-whether types.

The Recreation Division eliminates barriers through responsive, exceptional recreation services. We operate over 50 recreation facilities (community centers, teen centers, pools, school-based learning centers, environmental learning centers, and boating and sailing centers) and provide opportunities for people to play, learn, and lead healthy, active lives. Our programs and events include fitness and athletics, licensed childcare and preschool, swimming and boating, youth development and job preparation, academic enrichment, and more — including programs designed for older adults and people with disabilities, as well as grant and partnership programs designed and implemented with immigrant and refugee communities.

Job Responsibilities

  • P lans, and leads daily outdoor recreational activities. In various weather conditions Position will rotate among several assi gned programs designed f or various Demographics including Toddle/Youth, Teens, Adults, Seniors, Intergeneration al
  • Secures and maintains all materials and equipment for assigned programs.
  • Supervises activities and maintains order and discipline. Monitors performance of volunteers, coaches, and Recreation Attendants, during these activities.
  • Ability to plan/coordinate orientation-trainings and support development and implementation of recreation activities .
  • Solicits information from participants and communities on recreation needs/desires. Prepares recommendations for new program development or program revisions to meet community needs.
  • Responds to comments and questions, from program participants.
  • Collects program applications and fees as needed; prepares receipts and records payments.
  • Plans and conducts special events. Solicits volunteer participation in supervising recreational activities and special events.
  • Observes necessary precautions to secure the safety of recreation participants and spectators and renders routine first aid in cases of minor injury.
  • Maintains such records as attendance, program activities, volunteer participation and special events activities. Prepares weekly report of all activities.
  • Prepares promotional materials for the program such as brochures, fliers, and posters.
  • Ensures transport of participants to and from recreational activities.
  • Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Work Environment

  • Will be required to work weekends work and evenings .
  • Requires working outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Normally required to lift to 50 pounds.
  • May require strenuous physical activity.

Qualifications

Requires one year experience in a community-based recreation program and an associate degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

License, Certification and Other Requirements

  • Current State of Washington driver’s license and/ or evidence of equivalent mobility.
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate required within six months of hire.

Additional Information

The full salary range for this position is $20.75 – $33.33 per hour

October through March 5 days a week Tuesday through Saturday 9 – 5 :30pm with occasion al later evenings for special events

April through September Wednesday- 4 days a week Saturday 9am-7:30pm with occasion al later evenings for special events
