Yoga & Fitness Manager, Bouldering Project, DC

The yoga and fitness manager is responsible for the coordination and management of yoga and fitness programming at Bouldering Project – Washington DC. The manager will set up and maintain efficient systems for hiring instructors, communicating BP expectations for safety, quality, and experience, and coordinate with departmental managers to ensure the yoga space and fitness studio are cleaned and maintained. The yoga and fitness manager will work closely with the General Manager and the Director of Experience to deliver accessible, fun, and innovative yoga and fitness offerings at the Bouldering Projects.

YOGA & FITNESS PROGRAM OVERSIGHT // PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND DIRECTION

    • Maintain accessible, fun, dynamic and high quality yoga and fitness programming, with input and guidance from the Director of Experience
    • Distribute BP yoga and fitness point of view / expectations for alignment across market gyms and instructors
    • Maintain compliance with employer/subcontractor relationship terms, with guidance from BP HR
    • Balance attending classes with feedback from staff / guests / other instructors to maintain the pulse of the yoga program (recommended that the x-gym manager audits each instructor once per quarter, with a more frequent cadence for new instructors (to be determined with GM))
    • Work with the BP Marketing team and local GM to grow the BP Yoga and Fitness Community through various promotional channels
    • Develop an efficient and functional system for sourcing and scheduling subs for classes. Review, communicate, and enforce instructor subbing policy
    • Develop and maintain tracking systems and KPIs for class attendance, consolidated and accessible by GMs
    • Offer specialty classes or workshops, distributed across market gyms (recommended: quarterly)

SCHEDULE CREATION AND MAINTENANCE

    • Craft a class and workshop schedule that meets the needs of our community within a provided labor budget.
    • Strive for a balance of class types offered at varying times of the day
    • Keep the instructor schedule up to date in BP’s online scheduling system
    • Update class offerings seasonally to align with changing needs and traffic
    • Maintain the internal calendar of classes and events in POS
    • Consider member feedback when adjusting schedule and content

INSTRUCTOR HIRING AND COORDINATION

    • Interview and evaluate potential instructors, and manage process of hiring instructors
    • Communicate BP yoga quality standards and expectations with instructors
    • Communicate programming, gym updates, and additional relevant information with instructors regularly
    • Establish and communicate expectations regarding attendance and timeliness with instructors, including an appropriate subbing policy. Document instances of policy infraction when expectations are not met
    • Maintain an adequate sub list and process to backfill necessary classes

FACILITY SET UP AND MAINTENANCE

    • Ensure the studio and equipment remain clean and functional
    • Document instructions and expectations for studio / fitness area cleaning and coordinate with appropriate managers and staff to create a cleaning schedule
    • Coordinate necessary repairs. Submit equipment orders as needed and within the budgeted resources

ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

    • Manage instructor time cards (working with Accounts Payable and HR)
    • Ensure instructors maintain the necessary credentials
    • Work closely with GM to track labor and equipment budget to actuals performance
    • Review and respond to member feedback requests, and inform the GM of feedback trends

INTRA-GYM COLLABORATION

    • Keep department managers and associated staff informed and up to date with programming and facility needs
    • Maintain a high level of customer care
    • Collaborate with GM and Marketing Team to market classes, workshops, and developing social media content as necessary
    • Support incident reporting and reviews, safety reviews, emergency scenarios, and policy writing
    • Address customer complaints, injuries in gym, and incidents in facility
    • Ensure classes/programs have enough emergency support through systems and notification sequences
    • Act as a leader in the space and support leadership team as needed, in collaboration with the GM

CROSS-GYM COLLABORATION

    • Attend regular 1 on 1s, manager meetings, and staff meetings with each gym
    • Leverage instructor pool to teach across multiple facilities (not a current need)
    • Work with GMs to determine appropriate labor mix to maintain studio/facility cleanliness at each location
    • Work with GMs to set up appropriate communication structure (e.g. Slack) to communicate with staff across gyms and instructors across gyms

Requirements

    • Yoga Certification (RYT 200 or higher)
    • Group Fitness Certification (NASM, AFAA, or ACE)
    • 2+ years of experience in a leadership role

Working Conditions

Many duties require the availability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs and events, including possible evenings and weekends. Duties often occur before and after regular business hours.

Salary

$60,000
